Don't think Overton is going to last the distance. Bowled 634.2 overs in all formats this year. Compared to say Broad 494.0 and Ball 419.0.

Who will step up if Overton picks up an injury?
Match practice
Ball 15.4 overs
Curran 0 overs

I am posting a :) because that's the only one still standing.

That's a good idea. Curran to play in the 27-29 Nov match for the Lions? I am sure Mark Wood will be called up after that match. There is also a 2 day game after the 2nd Test 9-10 Dec. Expect Ball, Curran, Wood to be the bowlers in that.

Wouldn't be worried about Stokes having no match practice.
26 Sept, it's been over 7 weeks. You would have to wonder why it is taking so long. I have read that the ECB have started his disciplinary hearing so that won't take long to conclude when they finally hear from the police. Hales must also be waiting to find out when he can play again.

Mirror
Alastair Cook spent a bit of time off the field in the afternoon with a slightly upset tummy. It is not thought to be an issue for the opener, but it gave Jake Ball the chance to spend some time in the field as a replacement and test out his sprained ankle further. He has been bowling in the nets and is likely to be available for selection in Brisbane. With Craig Overton making a third duck out of three innings, Ball still has a good chance of playing on Thursday. Before his injury he was the best seam bowler behind James Anderson on the tour and on bowling ability alone would be picked ahead of the Somerset man.

Ball comes into the equation again. I don't know who I would choose. Ball is the faster bowler, both tall. No more chances of runs for Overton.

So far
Anderson 9/69 7.66 econ 1.76
Woakes 12/195 16.25 econ 3.09
Ball 2/36 18.00 econ 2.29
Overton 185/8 23.12 econ 2.93
Broad 3/101 33.66 econ 3.01, didn't play in the bowler-friendly Adelaide

I got the impression Overton was going to play. Lack of runs with the bat shouldn't keep him out.

Bayliss said nobody who hadn't played test cricket in the last 18 months would play. So that means Ball.... or it means he's been talking out of his hat all along

Ball last Test Dec 2016
Bayliss did say that, then selected Overton, Crane, Foakes and Curran. Half the squad have 18 Tests between them.

I am worried about Broad 3/133.
Against the West Indies 9 wickets at 36.22. Is his heel giving him trouble again?

Na his career has ebbed and flowed to be fair...goes through periods where he can't buy a wicket, and then suddenly takes a whole bucket load all of a sudden, and then goes quiet again.

not on the final day according to the reports.
Stuart Broad was tidy and Woakes used sparingly but fellow pace bowler Craig Overton harmed his chances of a Test debut in Brisbane with a toothless display - his attempts at unsettling Short with bouncers were treated with disdain.

I know nothing about law or police procedure, having never (fortunately) had any contact with the criminal justice system, but it seems to me that the police are taking a bloody long time to determine whether or not they even want to charge Stokes?

Does anyone who knows anything more about this sort of thing want to comment? Is this normal?
