Foakes is the best keeper in england and if it was up to me, then i would have him at 7 in the side and keeping.....but if they are determined to have Buttler there then surely he has to keep if he is playing.....also assuming it means that Burns and Pope not even considered for keeping duty

you can never have too many wicket keepers, seemingly

Surprising if the reserve wk, Buttler, doesn't take over the role, and Pope take the batting position. Otherwise, why that squad?

Are we going:

Burns/Jennings/Root/Bairstow/Stokes/Buttler/Moeen/Woakes/Rashid/Broad/Anderson?

Curran/Denly/Leach/Pope/Stone

Such narrow options. Hardly any batting cover.

I would have thought that Denly will be batting 3

Who are you leaving out?

I'd go with

Assuming Bairstow isn't fit

Burns
Jennings
Denly
Root
Stokes
Buttler (wk)
Moeen
Rashid
Woakes
Broad
Anderson

Or

Burns
Denly
Root
Pope
Stokes
Buttler (wk)
Moeen
Rashid
Broad
Anderson
Woakes

If Bairstow is fit, he plays instead of pope/Jennings

Not sure we need 4 seamers.

Can leave out Woakes for Leach then....although Stokes dosen't bowl loads these days...

Feels hard not to have six bowlers in this side. Leach for a seamer is fair enough.

Sounds like Foakes will play if JB1 is out.

If the pitch says two front line spinners, Id be tempted to field Ali, Leach and Rashid, play Anderson, and flood the line up with batters. Stokes is inevitably one of those, so he takes the new ball.... then expect your spinners to be able, if necessary, to bowl for 2-3 days of the test match, with guys like Denly and Root as a part time back up.

I am having left arm Curran instead of Woakes.

Surely after everything that’s been said publicly, Root will bat at 4. Bairstow seems unlikely to play and Buttler will have the gloves.
