Root has said Buttler will be the keeper, so the story of Foakes was just guesswork.
Strange that the best spinner didn't play today. Others expensive.

either the Turnton specialist is not in the reckoning for the first test, or England are keeping him under their hat and hoping to surprise SL

Am I right in thinking it's a 2 test series?

3 tests, concluded by end of November.

This will be a squad game, and there will be another warm up before the Test.

The press are saying England want three spinners, so surely Leach will play, rather than count Denly as a spinner.

Root will bat at four, so Mo or the other Joe at three.

With yet another keeper is looking to cement a place in the test side, and Moeen being no more than a stop-gap at number 3 - is Joe Root going to have to move back up a place in the order for next year's Ashes?

Bayliss is talking about Stokes, Bairstow or Buttler batting at three! He said if England had bowled first with Mo having a lot of overs, JB2 would have gone in at three in Galle.

It will be interesting to see where Roy bats for the Lions 4 day match. I think the plan is to get him at number 3 for England. Pope will join making it a squad of 16!!!! for the 4 day game.

When will England go back to 5 bowlers. This is now the 3rd Test with 6. Rashid getting a central contract means 2 spinners to go with 4 seamers.

If Root is going to bat at 4 and we're going to select Bairstow, Buttler and Foakes to follow the captain, then I can only see room for 4 bowlers - one of which is Stokes!

Foakes gets the gloves for the remainder of the series.

Roy 58* with the Lions batting at 3.
Think he will be in the Test squad to West Indies replacing Pope.

So something like:

Burns
Jennings
Roy
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Foakes
Moeen
Curran
Leach
Anderson

The idea of having a guy at 3 with a sr of 83 in FC cricket scares the life out of me.

Opener goes first over, ball is moving all over, out steps a guy who doesnt know what a forward defensive is...

Certainly wouldn't be my choice either.

Was looking at the last time we played in the WI. Only Ali as the spin bowler. Tredwell played in 1 Test and Ali in the other 2.

In the last 2 years it seems the WI fast bowlers are more successful. England want 6 bowlers so 2 spinners will play. Good time to revert of 5 bowlers and more specialist batsmen.
