Pretty sure the ECB clarified he had not been suspended for the Ashes tour. He was simply dropped.

He had that hand injury from the fight so couldn't play even if he wanted to.

I suppose this will be after the India series with Hales and Stokes' lawyers involved.
I would have thought it was better to get it over after the incident happened, when the others were fined. I know .. prejudice the case etc

Isn't that what almost any professional body would do though? If we caused extreme harm to someone, even though it wasn't deemed criminal, it's easy to imagine getting the sack from work. More so if you are bringing your organisation into disrepute which is what Gentle Ben has done (as did all those players involved in a night's drinking that spiralled off into alarming violence). I'm not that much for suspensions for players breaking curfews as we've all been young once etc. But this was a horrific extreme. Arguably saying it damages the game risks being a ridiculous understatement because it was so much more gruesome than that covers.

DO not read on if you don't want to view an obvious connection to the treatment of Pietersen.

Contemplating KPs suspension yet again (for a thread I'm continuing) more than ever I'm struck by how swingeing his punishment was. Thinking about the Packer players, the SA rebels, the rumours of match fixing. There was considerable sympathy for Gatting for being sacked as England skipper for a sexual dalliance, but add to this that he was involved in a major incident with an umpire and then went to SA, and still Gatt came back. Probably other cases too. And this trial, where Stokes was guilty of extremely violent attack... and he's back straight away.

Maybe there's no greater wrong than being unpopular. Or major catalyst for reconciliation than being needed.

Stokes needs to do something to show he's changed. Can we go to the ground and sit in the stands and applaud a nice fifty or a wicket, ignoring the image of his extraordinary lack of control? It feels impossible. I'm not saying there's no way back, but he hasn't even begun to negotiate the journey. It shouldn't even be occurring to the ECB to recall him. What's going on here?

Eh, he played in the first test, I was right behind him when he was bowling England to victory, I think most England supporters were too.

I don't condone what he did, but he did it, he got tried for it, and found not guilty. I wouldn't want to go through what he went through, the possibility that you're going to get a criminal record, and at worst a prison sentence. He must have been crapping his pants for the last week.

He isn't going to change, he'll always have anger issues, he just has to find a way of managing them. This past week and the ten months before will have left an indelible mark in his brain, and I hope it will prevent a repeat.

I still don't know how he got over the 24 off 4 balls in the T20 final, so imo he must have some strong character traits in him. Lets hope they start to get a drop on the negative ones.

As for Pietersen, he was dispatched for being a c**t, everything else is irrelevant!!

I would punish Stokes further though, and drop him for the rest of the India series....... then compound that punishment by making him play for Durham for the rest of the season
