Big news!

Im not surprised though he has been playing test cricket now for well over a decade! A great leader for SA who has led them to the summit of the game

Well, the Surrey boys are going to be happy, he's a domestic player to boot.

do it at the start of the game (or the series) then, not half way through when your side is getting hammered and you are fighting to save the series.

He probably made the decision because they are getting hammered.

Reading some snippets on my Sky Sports app there was some suggestions from at least one commentator that his batting and captaincy were on the wain and it was time to let go.

I didn't pay much heed to that because he's been such a marvellous servant to SA cricket - hopefully he will smile a bit more now.

Another great international career comes to a close :clap

It could be a case of jumping off a sinking ship, especially with the re-emergence of the mighty baggygreen! Steyn, Amla and ABDV will be next. ;)
