The next man though is supposed to be head over all 3 formats.

Can't see ECB agreeing to someone doing it on a Part Time basis.

Well, he can't simply walk out of a contract, at least as far as I am aware.

I think the evidence is clear that Giles is simply not the man to take the team forward.

I've not seen Broad's comments about KP, where did that come from?

It was mentioned on cricinfo's twitter round up. Apparently said the loss of Swann and KP were damaging to the team during the post match interview.

but Lancs could agree to release him

I hope they don't, though

Has Mick Newell done enough at Notts to be worth consideration?

Mike Atherton-writing in The Times after today's debacle-reckons Moore's is the favourite ( can't post a link because it's behind a paywall)
Carberry has given an interview to The Guardian slating Giles(& praising KP)

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/m ... rsen-ashes

"I had a brief chat with Ashley during the fifth ODI in Adelaide," Carberry said. "His response was that he didn't really know. If you don't know mate, I sure as hell won't know."...
Carberry expressed doubt that much will change within the England camp – even after the ECB confirms its new head coach in late April. "It's been an ongoing thing for years. I don't think it's something that's going to change immediately. They have a way of doing things.

"I've been in the game a long time and you know some guys get given a shorter rope than others. I'm probably going to be a bit controversial here but throughout my England career, even as a schoolboy, I've always had that shorter rope – for some reason. I don't think much has changed now that I've stepped into the Test and one-day arena. I'm not going to hide my emotions. I was bitterly disappointed.

"At the age I am, I need straight answers. To be told I'm on the radar or being talked about? All these lip-service cliches don't interest me any more."

difficult to argue against that statement, tbf.

Of course.... a better squad selection in the first place might have helped. perhaps he ought to concentrate on that

or why he thought it was okay to jeopardise his team's success by selecting himself to play when it seems clear he wasn't fit enough to play effectively. That won't have helped 'the team' much, either.

Bad enough that we have to find a new coach from a very small, and pretty insubstantial pool of applicants, but now it would appear that we need to find a couple of new captains too

It's going to be a long decade, I think. Perhaps not quite '90's.... but not far away

almost impossible to spot England captain material anywhere in county cricket atm, let alone the England squad.

I read earlier that ITB was England captain for 12 matches, and didn't win a single one of them.

I'd like to hear his thoughts on where things have gone wrong on the field. Doubtless he'll have some incisive intuition that we could all benefit from hearing

Harmy was on Radio 5 earlier-pretty much on-message, talked about Giles not being able to pick his strongest team because of injuries. He also reckoned Broad played today because he didn't want to shirk his responsibilities as captain.
He also said the domestic schedule should be tweaked to allow the England players to participate in the domestic t20 competition.

Lancs have said that Moores may leave. So the contract doesn't seem to be a problem.

ECB flexing their muscles -

Lancs "We want compo if you take Moores"

ECB "How much do we give you (and the other counties) each season?"

Lancs "Ok, take him."

I'm not in favour of Moores though. He could hardly win a game last time, including losing at home. And he couldn't convince the dressing room as to his methods (not just KP, he was the spokesperson). And his reputation is of a Flower type micromanager. While there is something in idea of getting the small things right, we need someone with the wisdom to use that approach judicially alongside other methods. And we need someone who can allow the captain the space to take responsibility for the team.

I don't like Moores but if the alternative is Ashley Giles then maybe it's a case of lesser of two evils.
