Ashley Giles has his interview for head coach

Postby Aidan11 » Thu Mar 27, 2014 4:45 pm

I have been told about the actual interview. Just Ash and Giles Clarke were present and the conversation went like this -

Giles and ,,er Giles shook hands, exchanged pleasantries and got down to business

Clarke: So you want the head honcho's job eh? Want to be Top Dog? The Big Cheese?

Ash: Yes Your Highness

Clarke: Do you know what one of these is? (He shows Ash a cricket stump)

Ash: Yes I used to bowl at them. Never could hit the damn things though (Both Clarke and Ash roar with laughter).

Clarke: It doesn't matter. As long as you know a..er..what was it called again?

Ash: A stump sir.

Clarke: Yes, a stump. As long as you know that then you must know something about cricket. Now then how have you been doing in charge of our T20 effort?

Ash: Have you been watching any of it sir?

Clarke: No not a bit of it. Can't stand the ruddy game.

Ash: We're doing quite well. Thrashing the opposition out of sight.

Clarke: Yes I like a bit of thrashing if you know what I mean (They both roar with laughter again).

Ash: So have I got the job sir?

Clarke: What job is that?

Ash: Head Coach of all three formats

Clarke: I thought you already were in charge of those?

Ash: No sir, just the limited overs stuff. Andy Flower was Head Coach of the test team.

Clarke: Well why isn't he still in charge?

Ash: There was some...er..unpleasntness after the Ashes series sir.

Clarke: Oh well, never mind eh. You might as well have the job then. Saves me interviewing people I suppose.

With that they shake hands and Ash leaves the room as the new England Head Coach in all formats. The nurse gives Clarke a sponge bath.

Very good Aidan. Maybe someone at the ECB will wonder how a transcript of the interview leaked out.

Good one Aidan. I expect that KP will be sacked again for leaking this by text to Andy Flower.

After yesterday's display perhaps Aiden you would like to do a critique on Paul Collingwood's effectiveness as a fielding coach.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Has Giles sent any material to the board moderators yet to ask them to curb their critique?

Giles apologising to the stakeholders.

Broad citing the 'loss' of Pietersen as a reason for failure.

Are they taking the piss? I'd really rather they were.

Surely this must be the end of Giles' chances of being England's next Head Coach.

I don't think performance in a T20 competition should be the clincher for anyone's suitability to be England's coach and to plan for the recovery of Test and ODI side. But unfortunately we've not really seen anything from Giles throughout his period with England to offer sensible hope. Selection has been muddled. He seems to be an extension of the damaging Flower endgame. He didn't stand up for his 'million pound asset'. And he seems to think he is running a large corporation. Results have been terrible, though at times with mitigation.

He shouldn't have the job. But reappointing Moores seems a horrific possibility. It seems that he is the other likely possibility, and pro ECB journos seem to have been preparing us for this. There don't seem to be any good choices to make.

Why would that matter? Wasn't Giles under contract at Warks?
