if it mirrors the current trend ECB should get a tv deal worth 455M for 4 years work out as 113M a year.
Generally since BT arrived most or all sports rights have increased by 70%.
With ECB being a public body they can not keep any profit and all profit have to be justified and spent back on cricket or the board. Even keeping money in reserves, also read before they don't necessarily have to take the best offer in terms of money if it doesn't help them with their goals.

I would say currently ECB are about 10-20 M short from the TV deal to be financially stable and is quite possible ECB got a figure in mind let say around 80-90M a year where they are happy to take FTA or more widely available coverage since it help with their other target, IE getting more people to the sport, County cricket, higher uptake in players playing the sport, more public conscience.
they may come to the conclusion taking the extra 20-30M makes no difference to them since they don't really need the extra money and the Pay tv Exclusivity doesn't suit the counties and grass root cricket.

Graves said last week the TV deal will be huge since it got the potential to solve all ECB problems and make the english game financially secure for 14 years.
guessing he sees the TV rights doubling and he has said some sort of cricket will go FTA.
Hoping he keeps his word.

Fair enough. I think of subscription as one entity, much as people see fta as one thing, not differentiating between BBC, C4, ITV etc. But I see how the competition between subscription channels might squeeze out a small amount of change. Not much though, they will still be competing to make their package more exclusive.

A lot of that goes to a huge ECB staff, executive pay and lucrative expenses.

Think the crucial aspect in the next negotiation is that counties want FTA coverage over extra money since they feel the extra money won't go to them but the England team, ecb staff on executive pay and lucrative expenses.

Counties have a lot of power since they actually elect the ECB President and need 75% of their votes to get anything actually passed through.
Graves only got elected in the first place since he kind of promised FTA Coverage, more money to the counties and making the counties more self efficient.
think in his manifesto was also to decrease ECB staff bill and expenses.
although he said the increase this year was due to more overseas games when Atherton mentioned to him why the expenses went up.

Counties should be able to have both free to air coverage and increased revenue providing domestic TV coverage is separated from international TV coverage. Originally cricket went to Paywall TV because The Ashes was worth roughly £40 Million, 10 years on and domestic T20 is an equally valuable product.

Even with the England schedule taking precedence, there is room for additional games. During the group stage format you can easily have four dedicated weekends of televised back to back cricket - Thursday Evening | Friday Evening | 12.45pm, 3.45pm, 6.45pm Saturday | 12.15pm, 3.15pm, 6.15pm Sunday. Ensure all England players are available and the TV rights automatically increase in value. Even on a weekend in between ODI matches, another 3 matches can be added. There is no reason why the T20 rights can be shared between Paywall TV and FTA formats, just ensure that a minimum number of matches must be shown on FTA television.

from sale.
Quote:
There is disquiet at Sky, who have a monopoly on live England cricket rights, that the ECB have sold clips of Test action to the BBC website for what is believed to be a knockdown price — despite the Corporation turning their back on televised Test cricket years ago.

However, the ECB, who will not reveal what the BBC are paying, are desperate for further free-to-air involvement.

Surrey chairman, and graves had a fall out over the t20 but both agree that it needs some sort of FTA coverage.

From that article it seems a lot of counties are doing well with T20, and though the Test counties might be struggling to fill the grounds, they don't want to change either.

Cricket on tv would be nice though.

Not sure how Gould and Graves can have differences over the flagship T20 tournament. Gould would prefer to see Surrey (and traditional counties) play in a flagship T20 competition, though says city based teams can be incorporated as well.

As for Graves, I can't ever see him support a city based T20 competition when such an idea would literally split Yorkshire Cricket in two.

A few week back there was an article in one of the leading newspapers which claimed the executive committee of the ECB are attempting to alter the whole structure of the governance of the ECB. According to the article, the ECB say that the government is discontented with the way cricket is run and monies it receives from Sport England will be lost if changes are not made. The changes are essentially that the Counties must no longer have the ultimate power over the running of cricket. What is proposed is a management take over of cricket or to put it another way the tail is determined to wag the dog.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Graves wants about 8-10 teams, surrey wants all 18 teams.
That the main and big difference.

the schedule
Wed 24 Aug:
1.30pm - Live ODI cricket: England v Pakistan

Thur 25 Aug:
10.30am - Live European Tour golf: Made in Denmark (1st session)
2.30pm - Live European Tour golf: Made in Denmark (2nd session)

Fri 26 Aug:
10.30am - Live European Tour golf: Made in Denmark (1st session)
2.30pm - Live European Tour golf: Made in Denmark (2nd session)
7.00pm - Live EFL: Burton v Derby

The channel runs for 24 hours per day so there is also a whole host of highlights and filler programming - including ODI highlights and EFL Cup highlights.
guessing most highlight shows would be on the mix channel as well.

looks like I cancelled sky at the right time, 1st September no sky sports and saving 60 pounds a month.
