Wonder what the management were doing when hales barged in surely someone could have stopped him from going to the umpires room.

pretty poor day for hales all round.

My post:

The contrast between the way England reacted here and with Anderson v Dhoni/Jadeja is stark. Even though Anderson's outburst v India was obscene. Why?

Different coaches?

One was aimed at a player, the other an umpire (though the fact Anderson's recent aggro was aimed at an official didn't perturb many).

Different players, different standards.?

The difference in the threat of the punishment?

Something else?

Only the words by Anderson were reported by the Indian media but not by Jadeja/Dhoni. No mention of their replies, I can only think it was the same by both sides.

When it came to Anderson's tantrum in the Pakistan Test I would have fined him his WHOLE match fee. The umpires quietly got their own back by removing him from the bowling. Really as a bowler you want the umpires on your side. He has no brains at all. Why do players question the umpire? They never change their minds after making a decision. I remember in SA he got his second warning for running on the wicket while his back was to the umpire. So he had a reason to be upset but really needs to sort out his problem once and for all. It usually when he hasn't bowled for a while, like 11 weeks since UAE with only 30 odd overs in the 2nd Test in SA.

Not going that well for Strauss, the fallout of the selection process for BD. Though I imagine everyone at the ECB is relieved Downton is no longer there. It's hard to believe that Strauss is actually making any decisions, but he is responsible for PR. And saying all the players had a free choice, and then expressing disappointment at the choice two of them made hasn't been good for the image of the ECB. Furthermore, saying the tour was 100% safe was an idiot move.

Some pretty bad statistics here.
Cricket's unpopularity amongst young people was reflected in ticket sales this season with only 5% of people in the grounds for international matches on junior tickets (under-16s). For the NatWest T20 Blast, that figure was only slightly higher at 13%. Those figures compare unfavourably with Premier League football: 18% and Premiership Rugby: 25%. Participation statistics are no better with Fordham disclosing that "participation trends are down 15% over the last decade and 10% over the last seven years" and Hollins stating that "one in two cricketers are thinking about not playing next year because it takes up too much time."

Do wonder if ECB push for the new T20 competition would mean them admitting they need some sort of FTA coverage for the international game/t20 competition.
would be very odd for them to take an new exclusive pay tv contract and then say participation and number of kids playing the sport is down.

Funny how those army tricks are going to help a cricketer. :dunno If they practice in nets for that much time then that will surely benefit them more imo.

having been to alot of these team-building leadership events and actually running a couple :hide , i cringe a little when i see things like this

One of the tasks set by Morgan was for the Lions players to fix a broken sail on a boat in a howling wind, something used to improve decision-making under pressure. Jennings, who admits he was taken aback by the step-up in intensity during his two Tests in the international cauldron last month, got the intention behind it.

might have helped the SA groundstaff at todays game when they were trying to put the covers on during a rain shower and got dragged accross the field holding onto the cover

It's hardly even a news story. England are arsing around pretending to mend a sail (certainly not under pressure). I wonder if the ECB insist this stuff gets out because they think it is impressive.

That article is pretty hard to read. It does Jennings no favours.

Perhaps Flintoff could have benefited from the sail lesson out in the WI, so maybe there's something in it.

How bad a captain would Alastair Cook have been without his leadership building programme? How incoherent?
