2015 World Cup plans

Postby shankycricket » Mon Sep 22, 2014 12:35 pm

Anyone planning to go Down Under for the WC next year? I am planning to go from the Q/F stages. Can anyone tell me the approximate total cost of the trip : travelling, food, stay, air tickets and the match tickets etc?

I think the Barmy Army have a web site and are probably expert in such matters, why not try them.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

I'm planning to go to New Zealand for the group stages when England are there, already bought my match tickets back in February through the ICC. Not sure on ticket availability but you can always check.

A cricket team-mate of mine is going to Australia when England play the remaining group stage matches, he went onto travelbag and only cost him £1400 for the lot.

We are planning, coincidentally, to be in Melbourne for nearly all of March staying with my son and his family, so a return visit to the MCG may be on the cards.

We're lucky that this time they've got room for us to stay - still reckon minimum of £1,500 each including return flights, keep, spending money etc.- probably be quite a bit more in the end, it usually is.

Purchased 5 multi-domestic flights in New Zealand (Nelson, Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington) with Air New Zealand, amounted to £473. Reserved 15 nights of hostel accommodation on booking.com, amounting to $467 NZD.

International flights and travel insurance to book next, found return flights from Manchester to Wellington for as little as £855.

I've bought tickets for the final. The seats are in the middle balcony section, square on to the wicket, not too far from where I sat for the 1992 final. I had to buy tickets this time. They were $ A300 each, which is about £200 I guess. It is a bit of a splurge, but I couldn't let the opportunity pass.

I've gone and bought tickets for England-Australia at the MCG. Couldn't let that one pass, even if it'll be crazily one sided.

I'll probably rock up to one or two of the matches at Manuka oval, mainly to support more cricket coming to the ACT...

You'd pay that much to see England hit the winning runs against India?

England will struggle to make it out of the group stage. I reckon it will be an Oz-NZ final.

We set off for a family visit to Melbourne on 24th March - the cricket will be an interesting back drop. All of my son's family and extended family are Aussies and he's got citizenship as well. Win or lose they are all incredibly kind and hospitable and great company. I've yet to meet an Aussie who isn't.

Enjoy f_t_s and all those going to a game.
