I have a feeling that they won't play Tredwell and use Ali as the spinner bowling 10 overs with 4 quicks.

Could happen . Depending on the pitch conditions , perhaps. Probably not in all matches. But since Bopara is in the squad , I'd expect him to be included , in order to provide some flexibility in the bowling options...having just Moeen/Root committed for ten overs no matter what strikes me as a little risky.

If Bopara isn't bowling, then he isn't worth a place in the side - he just doesn't perform with the bat when actually needed.

Now we have a different captain, he might get to bowl as often as he ought to...
Sports broadcasting media nut miscast as a hard-working family man. Or should that be the other way around?

England decided to rather go for Stokes instead of Bopara against India. Then after the media made a fuss that Bopara was left out he was added to the squad for SL but probably only for SL as Australia would suit Stokes more. Unfortunately in SL Stokes batted out of position, couldn't get runs and affected his confidence in bowling.

Stokes in Australia 5 matches 10 wickets at 24.20 s/r 25.2 and he made more runs than Bopara. Also an excellent fielder. So Stokes stays at home and Bopara goes to the World Cup.

Arguably a consequence of using a Sri Lanka tour as a warm up for the WC - not that they had much choice. However (unfortunately) the current Stokes seems but a shadow of the man who returned those figures a year ago.
I'm sure he will come again ; but he probably wouldn't have been a good choice right now.

How much use Bopara will be , of course , remains to be seen...

interesting comments from angus fraser on the selection process and saying that the selectors cant make the decision to change the captain without getting it signed off by Clarke/downton

It's a bit like a football manager having boardroom interference on picking a team. I could understand Moores letting them know as a matter of courtesy that the captain had to go but no further than that. If Downton had said No then that would have ruined the whole selection process. Thank heaven Giles is leaving his post. Just need to get rid of Downton then English cricket might start going forwards again.

it does suggest a very old fashioned mindset imo that the captain is an ECB figurehead as much as anything to do with what happens on the pitch

Saeed Chuckmal has withdrawn from world cup. This guy had said that Sachin retired because he was scared of me.

It's a big loss for Pakistan though. Chukmal banned, Hafeez banned. Now they are left with inexperienced leftie Zulfiqar and Yasir and Chuckridi ?

Brendon McCullum (capt), Trent Boult, Grant Elliott, Tom Latham, Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Adam Milne, Daniel Vettori, Kane Williamson, Corey Anderson, Tim Southee, Luke Ronchi (wk), Ross Taylor

Kiwis able to leave out Jimmy Neesham and Matt Henry. Probably among the favourites. Their commentators were describing England as dark horses the other day. Patronising sods.
