Ravi Shastri says Virat should be given captaincy for all formats.

I like Virat has opted for 6+ 5 combo in 1st test versus West Indies. He is definitely preferring this combo more often than Dhoni did.

Yeah especially when Kohli shouldn't really play 5 bowlers since 4 of the bowlers can't really bat.
Dhoni should have done it far more considering their was a time he had 3-4 bowlers capable of holding the bat.

I like the boldness of the 6+5... Who cares if the bowlers can't bat..im of the opinon, that batsman score the runs, bowlers take the wickets..anything else is a bonus..good on Virat for being bold

the more Virat Kohli captain the more I get impressed with the way he thinks about the game.
hopefully he does well outside Asia.
Although with him in Charge you can guarantee india will compete in games and that is all you can ask for.

Dhoni had a much better team. Sachin, Gauti, Sehwag, Harby, Rahul, Saurav, VVS, Kumbe, Zak.

Virat is not having players who have reached that class yet apart from himself and Ashwin. He has a tougher challenge in this initial years as captain. However, the onus is on him to build and develop core team of players. If he succeeds in that area, then he will reap benefits of having more world class players in playing 11.

TBH Adi Rahane, Vijay are already close to being world class level and Kl Rahul got the potential to join them.
Kohli reign will depend on how he operates his bowlers and what he expects from them, dhoni gave up too easily and didn't push the bowlers to get better.

Not actually sure Kohli will have tough start considering most of his reign will be at home in the next 2 yrs and when he does actually tour he should know more about his bowlers and how he operates them so he really got an easy start.
Australia away was his honeymoon, then had Sri lanka away, SA home, WI away and then 4 home series followed by a long 18 months away from home mostly.

imo Ashwin will have a better career record under Virat than he had under Dhoni. The negative line of attack has decreased a lot since Virat became test captain.

One more test where Virat has opted for 5 bowlers.

Will be interesting to see tomorrow what approach he takes with regards to declaration.

Adi are you afraid he may burn himself out? Plays all forms for every side he plays for...scores a lot of runs, so always in the middle, and he captains aggresively both physically and mentally...a chance he may burn out?

Think Nasser said in comms he finds it fascinating how the Indian players especially the current lot never feel tired or show it.
Indian haven't generally complained about schedule or having to play cricket or do cricket related actives every day but then again they are getting paid a lot for being cricketers.
Only really English or Indian player can complain about workload no else come close to it.
At the moment Aussie players are moaning but seriously some of them have it easy really.

He might be ok right now but might struggle overseas, dhoni lost the will at times to bother motivating players overseas, not sure I can see kohli losing the will or take any crap performance from players.
Might have poor series in odi or unimportant test, might struggle for consistently but suspect he be fired up in the big games and moments.
Suspect he might struggle in odi espeically now with the team not that great but suspect he be mentially resting from that anyway don't think he was that fired up for nz odi series.

The advantage is he hardly bowls in IPL, ODI, Tests . But yes it's a fact that he plays in all formats. However, if you see, BCCI has managed him well resting him for one or two series against lesser nations. Such planned rests will help him manage workload. I don't think that burnout will be an issue going by the way things are planned with regards to him.

wasn't talking about bowling...i meant it as in, he gives 100% all the time, and he will burn himself out through his efforts batting, and the way he captains the side..it will take a lot out of him, physically and mentally..
