not sure that wold have been kohli's decision , certainly not made without agreement from fletcher and shastri anyway, not when he was just the stand-in captain for that game

Often it has been speculated that coaches do not have much say in Indian team selection. Either there should have been Dhoni's stamp or Virat's.

Another blunder by Virat is to drop Chet and replace him with Rohit. Lokesh showed very bad temperament in first match. Rohit too is well known for his bad temperament. So in top 3 we have only one if form batsman (Murali) and the remaining two with lack of temperament. Just noticed that Raina is also playing test that too in Australia.Rohit,Lokesh and Raina might contribute but overall a very bad decision by Virat considering many things. Virat has not at all impressed me in team selection aspect at least.

to be honest, I think Kohli views Chet as a threat to him in test cricket and his poor form has given Kohli the opportunity to drop him. You could see Pujara leading the test team in the future.

Don't think Kohli will see Che as a threat.

India will want a captain who plays every format in the future and is usually in the first team. It's either him, Ishant or Ashwin. Rahane might pop up. But Che hasn't been seen as a one day player and I doubt that will change any time soon.

First player to hit 3 tons in his first 3 innings as captain.

Smith is first three tests. Kohli has bettered him, with innings.

Cook had a good start as well. Wasn't it first four tests with a ton?

Was he really that good at one time? It seems so long ago now.

As a captain Chet was certainly one of the strong contender, if we were going to have a separate test captain. But, i feel the management want same captain for all formats and Virat cannot be challenged by anyone. Also he has better experience than Chet in all three formats.

Dropping Chet is not justified though, given the options on bench. In fact we have Raina and Rohit in playing 11 and a newcomer Lokesh. One of the bad selection decisions by any Indian captain.

The only good thing he has done as a captain is he has scored more runs as captain. It could either be due to form or him taking more responsibility as a captain now by leading the batting attack. Personally he is doing well post captaincy but team wise we are not yet seeing wins overseas.

your not seeing wins overseas, because it's his first offical game as test captain...give him a chance..

don't think that's a valid reason not to drop someone in a dead rubber

I would have opted to keep Chet in playing 11 instead of Lokesh, Rohit and Raina in this series. Yes, i am aware that Lokesh scored a ton, Rohit scored a 50 and Raina 0. In long run it is a very bad decision to me. Chet did not convert his starts into a ton, but i hope they are more thoughtful in team selection and at least Raina is dropped for including Chet for next test series.

Virat will probably realize the mistake and i would not be surprised if Chet makes the playing 11 in next test. Somebody will make way for him imo.

Dead test match - i don't think so. Only Aussies have the liberty to treat it as dead rubber and experiment in selection to test bench strength. Whereas we had to pick our best 11 and were in no position afford to experiment to test the bench strength.
