Gillespie seems to have either been led up the garden path, or has been a little indiscreet himself, because he seemed to think the job was his.

With Australian Hardy's wine now England's sponsors and possibly an Aussie coach what next - don't most things come in threes?

An Aussie great as coach wouldn't have felt right. Bayliss seems more acceptable just because he hasn't got the international experience that Strauss was said to be looking for.

well it would have been his if he wanted to coach all formats and not miss any series for england.
basically I think he was wanting to skip the pakistan series and some odi, Strauss didn't really want that.

many sites have been reporting time off was an issue for Gillespie.

Crazy to think the coach gets half the salary of the captain.
Easiest job in the world if the team wins.

So, they've picked the bloke who they thought wasn't as good as Moores to replace Moores.

Makes sense

Bob Willis said that he thinks the ECB reappointed Moores because they wanted an English coach but realised their mistake. He also reckons that Bayliss' proven record as a coach in one day international cricket might have been the deciding factor this time. Bob also said one good thing about Trevor is that he's an old fashioned coach who doesn't talk "gobbledygook"
His previous working relationship with Fabrace is probably also a factor.
Looks to me as if the press just assumed dizzy was the chosen one whereas as Strauss always wanted Bayliss.

JG seemed to think he was the appointment, given his press.

When Moores was given the job again, I (and I expect, many) said that giving the job to the wrong person once is a mistake, but twice is hard to forgive.

The ECB seem to make a lot of decisions that in advance seem like they have to work to be acceptable. But they rarely actually work.

I think the press may be a bit miffed that they've been side-swiped here.

I can just see the suits at HQ popping champagne corks and high-fiving over the fact they've got one over on them.

Clearly from his interview he was gutted, felt for the guy. He never said he'd got the job just that he'd take it if offered. Strange to come out with the comments he did straight after his interview, must have misread the signs of positivity given to him during it, but I guess that's often how most interviews are.
