Reading comments from rock and pop acts she seems highly regarded. Someone from my generation growing up.

Was watching a TOTP documentary on youtube the other day where she made a prominent part. I'd forgotten how good she was as a TOTP presenter. Her and John Peel had great chemistry!

RIP John Madden

A player, coach and to me, commentator. His voice stood out when I started watching in the mid 80's.

Ronnie Spector has died, my pick for the greatest ever pop singer, though the number of hits is quite limited. She can do Frosty the Snowman and it breaks your heart. RIP. Her hits with The Ronettes, Walking in the Rain and Baby I Love You (recorded with her later husband Phil) are phenomenal pop records.

If you consider the Ronettes only album a proper album, and not just a compilation record of various singles, then its right up there with the best mainstream pop music has had to offer. I agree about her talents as a singer.... she could teach her modern day equivalents a thing or to about the art.

Just seen this

Whenever famous people die I'm always interested, sometimes surprised and sometimes shocked, but rarely saddened.

Meatloaf dying has saddened me. RIP

Sorry to hear. Lived a full life though. I think I read somewhere that he'd been ill for a lot of his adult life which compromised his touring.

I went to see Meatloaf about 20 years ago, my friend had a spare ticket and I assumed he was going to have to go on his own and took it more as a favour to him; then I found out his mum, dad, brother and uncle were all going too. They spent the whole gig wondering why I wasnt dancing in the Aisle like them, and wondering if I was indeed a massive Meatloaf fan (I was there strictly for the favour, the music isnt really my bag). He was a good performer, but like Springsteen (always the artists you go to accompany someone else and dont like) he wanted to play for 4 hours and get into his early B side collection. My friend and the die hards love it. Me no so much.

Its memorable though for Meat's stage introduction. He had cancelled the gig originally after a heart attack, and had been reported dead falsely - so the gig began with the sounds of a hospital and doctors trying to save someones life.

At one point the voice over said "Oh no.... I think he's dead. I think Meatloaf is dead". At which point Meatloaf jumped out his fake hospital bed on stage, and in his signature operatic power voice screamed "NOOOOOOOO" to the sound of someone thrashing a guitar solo. He then jumped around the stage for what seemed like 5 minutes just screaming "Im Back..Im back" repeatedly as the guitar solo continued.

It was real life spinal tap....it took me a long time to stop laughing. I give Meatloaf his due, I hold him dear to my heart still for that unintentional comedy moment. Still arguably the funniest thing I have ever seen.

Was a decent actor in the films I have seen him in too. Came across as a very down to earth guy in interviews I seen.
