I am in shock now. A true great of the game, amazing sportsman, great entertainer gone far too soon. As others have said, I watched him torment England for years, but his skill, class and grace in defeat in 2005 showed what a great sportsman he was. How do you lose a series when you take 40 wickets at under 20?

He was the definition of a box office player, and inspired countless young people to take up the game. Also one of the better commentators, at least when he talked about bowling: I really enjoyed his insights on the tactics of spin, field placing etc.

There can be no greater compliment to an Australian cricketer than the words of the Barmy Army: We only wish you were English.

RIP you bloody legend :salute

Can't add much to what has been said above. I've been in shock most of the day after waking to hear the news...

An absolutely wonderful cricketer : whether he won or lost (he ensured it was usually the former !) he was never less than enthralling to watch. Personality that increased his already huge threat as a bowler by overwhelming the opponent ; and on the occasions he did finish up on the losing side nothing in the way of excuses from him . (Same for any of the "indiscretions" that sometimes affected his personal life ) Larger than life and always presented himself to the world exactly as he was.

Terribly sad that he has left us at such a young age. Sad week for Aussie cricket - for all cricket , in fact. Gutted.

RIP Warnie.

Miguel Van Damme.... 28 year old goalkeeper for Cercle Bruges. Leukemia got him at the fifth attempt.....life isn't fair is it. RIP lad.

We talk about how crap football clubs can be, but Cercle deserve praise. Kept him on the payroll for 5 years despite him having no chance of playing, and signed to the maximum length contract possible in Belgian law when they found out his illness was terminal....so his wife and kids would receive his wages when he died.

Pure class that.

Very moving state memorial service for Shane Warne tonight.

Very well done. I shed more than a few tears.

I dont really get much out of that sort of thing, so avoided it.

I paid my respects by opening some tinnies on the night he died, and trawling Youtube for his bowling highlights. I think Warney would approve...

I think it amply demonstrates the very high regard that he was held in by many people across the world.

RIP Dennis Waterman. I know people will remember him for his tv hits. But I never saw Minder and hardly The Sweeney. I remember him as a child actor in films in the early sixties, and as an adult, in Scars of Dracula where he was Jenny Hanley's boyfriend, captive of Chris Lee's Count.
I always say that everybody's right.

yes, his death surprised me a little. He'd always seemed so robust. he finished new tricks in 2015, so perhaps he'd retired to Spain because I'm not aware of him working on something else. He must have popped into the Shepherd and Shepherdess in Beamish at some point in his career, because there's a signed photo of him on the wall (or at least there used to be... it's been years since I was last in there). Signed to the 'Governor' RIP...... up above somewhere writing the theme toon, singing the theme toon

Sad news from Australia again.

Andrew Symonds has died in a car crash. RIP

The best fielder i have seen and he had the incredible record of never loosing a WC match in 18 games. Part of the greatest ODI teams in Australian history.

Australian cricket is having to say good bye to another great. Taken to early

Yet another sad loss to Australian cricket in what has been a terrible year...

Symonds was a bit of a larrikin but could certainly hit a cricket ball ! And indeed a wonderful fielder.

Far too young. RIP .

Sad news. A troubled life it seems. RIP.

I presume most will remember him for ODIs, but I recall him and Hayden taking the Melbourne Ashes Test away from England in 06 after an early collapse.
