Indeed, Alfie. A true giant of Australian Politics.

I think he was PM when he copped a bouncer that smashed his glasses and sent them flying - during the then annual Press vs Pollies cricket match in Canberra

a great ability to appear menacing, merely by his presence.

Save me the effort, Arthur, what is the speech?

ta.

I have never seen Blade Runner. It is one of many films that I think I should have seen.

Like Taxi Driver.

It is worth a watch. But don't bother with the sequel.

I always get Blade Runner and Logan's Run mixed up in my head

I first noticed him in some sort of TV series set in Germany or eastern europe, perhaps during the war, but I struggle to remember what it was, and Fatherland, escape from sobibor and inside the third reich are not ringing any bells in the footman brain.

Heimat?

Apart from Blade Runner I can picture him in The Hitcher and think I can in Osterman Weekend and Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Hobo With a Shotgun of course.

I've seen a Dutch film called Spetters with him in a small role, by Paul Verhoeven and they went on to make Soldier of Holland together which is in the 1001 Films to See Before You Die (rather than after) which I bought on dvd but haven't seen yet. They made Flesh+Blood together in Hollywood. Bit of an eighties figure mainly for me.

he doesn't seem to feature in the credits for Heimat

I'm going to have to put it down as one of life's imponderables

Took me a while to appreciate it. I didn't get Blade Runner on a first viewing. But it's one of those films that gets better every time you watch it, you just spot more and more.

Watch the director's cut though, not the cinematic version.

RIP RH.
