Terrible news. Obviously, hope he's ok. But a big loss for England too. Never given a fair chance by the national side.

Dreadful news and even more so when he was on the brink of claiming his place with England. Let's hope after the operation he can return.

Gutted for him. He has been one of my favourite players for quite a few years now – I think I was recommended to keep an eye on him back on the old BBC 606 forums when he was Leicestershire. We were yet to see the best of him for England but he was just beginning to establish himself and I’d hoped he was on the verge of really stamping his mark on the international game.

@sussex - it's only just been discovered, don't think anyone had any idea about it until the past few days.

Yes, he thought he had a virus. In a way, he's lucky it was found, but, of course...

And it's his livelihood, and his talent, just taken away from him.

Sad news indeed for the man. Hope all medical procedures go well and he can move on from here.
