There's hope he may be able to come back one day....

Remember Gayle?

Terrible news. Obviously, hope he's ok. But a big loss for England too. Never given a fair chance by the national side.

Dreadful news and even more so when he was on the brink of claiming his place with England. Let's hope after the operation he can return.

Really sad news. One of the best players in the country and had such a bright future ahead.

that really is a shocker - thought he was a guaranteed starter in tests and ODIs going forward given his recent efforts for Eng

must be awful to have this sprung on you at 26 just when all the hard work was starting to pay off

Devastating stuff - just as the England middle order is starting to look dynamic.

Heartbreaking for the lad. It does make me wonder if this is part of the reason why we havent seen him more in an England shirt over the last few years??

Lets hope he gets the mental support he deserves afterwards, I can imagine there is few things harder for a person to deal with than this.

I thought when I see it on the news today that it was a joke! Very shocking

Gutted for him. He has been one of my favourite players for quite a few years now – I think I was recommended to keep an eye on him back on the old BBC 606 forums when he was Leicestershire. We were yet to see the best of him for England but he was just beginning to establish himself and I’d hoped he was on the verge of really stamping his mark on the international game.

@sussex - it's only just been discovered, don't think anyone had any idea about it until the past few days.

Yes, he thought he had a virus. In a way, he's lucky it was found, but, of course...

And it's his livelihood, and his talent, just taken away from him.

Sad news indeed for the man. Hope all medical procedures go well and he can move on from here.
