Who is England's greatest test captain, or in this case, top five?

Jardine, and Brearley stand out from an era before I started watching. From then on, Vaughan, Nasser, Strauss and Cook have done well, though Strauss and Vaughan both had some world class players to call upon.

Michael Vaughan, in my lifetime. It's hard to pick someone you didn't see, so that's from Brearley onwards.

It's probably unfair to compare between pre and post TV eras as the post TV captains come under so much more scrutiny. Illingworth and Brearley were the best I've seen and I think Vaughan got a lot of credit for a team which had been moulded by Hussain.
