100 Greatest Cricketers!

Postby Gingerfinch » Thu Dec 08, 2016 4:48 pm

Benedict Bermange (no me neither) from Sky Sports has picked what he thinks, the 100 greatest cricketers of all time.

http://www.skysports.com/cricket/news/1 ... ayers-10-6

Only numbers 5-1 to go.

A few notable absentees, and a few players higher or lower than I would have expected.

Botham is about 40 places too high, and while I'm not saying KP should be in, having him not in, but Boycott at 30 seems odd. Sensible list. Of the 50 that miss out, Joel Garner is the one that should be in there. His Test record is astonishing.

Yes Boycott is way too high.

Hick, despite being a hero of mine really shouldn't be in the 50 that misses out. I know it's all Cricket, but he failed at the highest level.

Hmm. I thought it was Test cricketers. Should be really, as it's too hard to compare those that didn't play ODIs to those who did. SRT is going to be in the top five, which is fine across the formats, but is too high based on Tests only.

Dale Steyn only at 48?

It looks like Warne, Murali, Bradman and SRT will be in the top five.

Impossible task.

Marshall at 34 seems low as well. Chris Gayle in, but no Greenidge?

Like you say, impossible task.

Grace feels out of place too.

Lillie at 35. Quick bowlers don't seem to rate to highly in this, unless you were born in 1860 of course.

Lillee's reputation seems to have been revised in the last ten years under the influence of not having played in India.

Marshall is too low. Arguably the best pace bowler ever.

Agree with Marshall

Did Barnes play in India? Like Grace, seems to be rated way to high.

There you go, if you include ODIs, Garner is a no-brainer.
