i thought there was an agreed limit between the ECB and the counties over kolpak signings

problem is legally the ECB cant stop counties signing kolpaks, as it would contravene EU employment laws, so it was never more than a "gentleman's agreement" regarding the circumstances around kolpak signings

South african cricket is in a mess now, and to be honest, i don't see what options they actually have to get themselves out of it, they can't compete financially as the rand is in what seems to be a permanent decline

Why do Kolpaks always seem to come from SA (only occasionally from other countries)? How come fringe players from Pakistan, NZ or even Australia and India don't try the same? Don't think there's anything stopping them.

If this is best for Abbott then it's his choice. As a cricket follower, it's disappointing, even a little depressing. But if he made this decision 'months ago' why didn't he inform CSA? It's quite likely they may have selected another player given that he was planning on ending his career.

I can imagine the kerfuffle if an England player did something like this! He'd be a hate figure.

I found some of the posts in the last few pages pretty offensive. To say that white people in South Africa leave the country because they are incapable of living in a new, multicultural society of modern South Africa is racist and ignorant. Using the pretext of apartheid to spout such views as being acceptable is not correct.

bhaveshgor wrote:I doubt any of it is due to the Apartheid, majority of people leave SA because of money, and a better life away from SA.
Why live in a country that declining in economy and got social issues.
Suspect majority of the South African would live in South Africa if they feel wanted and if the country economy had a better prospect.
Not a good sign when majority of the educated or skill people are leaving at the same time.

South Africa will be a far better country if the corrupted Zuma leaves.
you really can't blame people to leave if they can easily move countries, because any sane person would be moving out of SA at the moment.

Really the key point why people are leaving in droves is because with Zuma in charge SA will not give their children the resources, good life, good school, safe home etc that you will get anywhere in the world.

I find it rich that an India fan is calling South Africa corrupt...that's like the pot calling the kettle black!
:point
And why would you leave one corrupt country for another?

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 54851.html

'Britain is the most corrupt country in the world, according to journalist Roberto Saviano, who spent more than a decade exposing the criminal dealings of the Italian Mafia. Mr Saviano, who wrote the best-selling exposés Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero, made the comments at the Hay Literary Festival. The 36-year-old has been living under police protection since publishing revelations about members of the Camorra, a powerful Neapolitan branch of the mafia, in 2006. He told an audience at Hay-on-Wye: “If I asked you what is the most corrupt place on Earth you might tell me well it’s Afghanistan, maybe Greece, Nigeria, the South of Italy and I will tell you it’s the UK."'

No, the issue is not corruption. The issue is money versus patriotism, and Abbott has chosen money over patriotism. In much the same way that Pollard and Russell choose making money playing T20 cricket over playing Tests for the West Indies. At least, where Russell is concerned, the West Indies are not a country. Russell is very patriotic about playing for his real country, Jamaica. But Abbott has chosen to make money as a Kolpak for Hampshire over playing Tests for his country, South Africa. Of the three corrupt countries, England and India still pay their players a good wage. South Africa cannot afford to do so. That's the sole reason for Abbott choosing to become a Kolpak. Talk of quotas is just an attempt to distract from Abbott's pursuit of the pound. Come on, Kyle, be honest!
:halo:
White South Africans were a lot more patriotic when their country was under apartheid, than they are now that their country is under the ANC.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/south-afric ... 75682.html

"The board has spent the last two days in meetings with Abbott's agent, Weber van Wyk, but they were unable to come to any arrangement that will convince Abbott to stay in South Africa, and his contract has been terminated with immediate effect. It was also confirmed that batsman Rilee Rossouw will be joining Abbott at Hampshire , also on a Kolpak deal."

There we go...another white Saffer, Rossuow.

Lest we forget, in all the whites-only elections since 1948, the pro-apartheid National Party won election after election. The anti-apartheid parties before 1992 got hardly any seats. It was only when black, coloured and Asian people were given the vote that the ANC won. I don't think a lot of these white Saffers have changed their spots....
8-)
But now Abbott has moved on, and so has Rossuow. It's unfortunate, but it's time to move on with players who are committed to the future of South African cricket. For the final Test, Abbott should be replaced by Wayne Parnell or Duanne Oliver. If South African cricket was as dominated by quotas as the English and Indian cricket media would have us believe, Parnell would've played this series instead of Abbott.

Instead, Abbott played, and now he's gone, in pursuit of the pound. Tell the truth, Kyle...this is all about you wanting to earn as much money as possible. Nothing else....
Nobody has a stance quite like the mighty Shivnarine....
