Not great for England though either if too many if these Kolpaks clog up the works. Imported stars are good for the competition on one level ; but they do also tend to block promising England players from taking up a leading role. A balance would be nice...

Is there a limit on the number of Kolpaks that can play county cricket? Hampshire already have 3... :no

Abbot leaving today not even the worse news, the bad news is that CSA might stop Kolpack players from playing Domestic cricket or players that are not registered to play for SA from the domestic system which would weaken the domestic game more and making it more difficult for players to make the step up to Test cricket.

no limit the only limit is that kolpaks had to play some cricket for SA recently and be international players.
ECB does restrict kolpaks by reducing grants/loans and money to the counties but that doesn't affect the rich counties.
apparently dan Kent got some kolpaks on the pipeline as well, dobell said more to come and he agreed to keep the news quiet for a while.

Oh really? I know Kent tried hard for Viljoen but Derby offered far more. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Probably be a few more Kolpak signings before Brexit is confirmed.

Where are the counties getting the money from.
Abbott getting 500K for 3 yrs that is more than the IPL.
That is what Surrey would pay for cricketers.
Viljoen again got a lot of money way more than what IPL would pay.
something doesn't add up considering majority of the counties don't have the money to afford Kolpaks.

in the ipl similar ability players are looking at 30-50K and no guarantee of getting it in future years or even being picked up in the first place.

Apparently the deal was agreed ages ago. Dobell only released it recently and then everyone became aware of it.

He wanted to play the final test and then retire. Dobell released the news this week so SA have decided to end his career today instead.

not much of a big loss then.
is he seriously worth the money though.
how much do county players actually get.
find it hard to comprehend how counties can actually afford kolpaks when they struggling financially and having kolpaks means ECB are less likely to give money/help in the future.

this is getting out of control....i know at Essex we have signed Simon Harmer, so might seem a bit contradictory, but im not at ease with all of this at all.....i dont like the Kolpak ruling...your either an overseas player or your not...end of, in my book.
