India's Champions Trophy Team

Postby The Professor » Mon Apr 24, 2017 10:27 pm

What team would you pick for the CT right here right now?

I would go for:

Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
MS Dhoni
Mannish Pandey
Yuvraj Singh/Suresh Raina
Jadhav
Hardik Pandya
Bhuvenshwar Kumar
Yuzvendra Chahal
Jasprit Bumrah

A tad old school with the batting maybe but you have to value experience.

they might not even send a squad if the reports are correct.
BCCI blackmailing ICC by threatening not to send a team to the competition.
will be breaking the rules of not submitting a squad by today.
Squad likely to be announced after the ICC meeting.

BCCI is trolling ICC. BCCI does not wants the revenue model proposed by Shashank Manohar. BCCI feels that as they generate more revenue their revenue share should not be reduced. This is further creating more rift between Shashank Manohar and BCCI. This is getting worse for the sponsors who have got into contracts and may have invested heavily in sponsorship, broadcasting and advertising rights. Will be interesting to read what reasons BCCI give for declaring team post deadline.

Reason has been provided by BCCI

http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-champions-trophy-2017/content/story/1094721.html

India have missed the April 25 deadline to submit their Champions Trophy squad to the ICC. ESPNcricinfo understands the BCCI told the ICC that it could not submit the squad for "operational" reasons. The other seven countries have all announced their squads.

According to a BCCI official, the delay was inevitable. With the BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhury and CEO Rahul Johri attending the ICC meetings this week, and captain Virat Kohli playing the IPL, all concerned parties couldn't be in one place at the same time to pick the squad.

"We have told the ICC the reason behind the delay," the official told ESPNcricinfo. "We have told them we will announce it soon."

Questions marks if BCCI will send a strong team now.
they have to send a team because COA are the only people that can pull out but it seems like BCCI will just send a 4th or 5th string side after losing the ICC vote today.
seems like things are going to get ugly in the ICC tables now.
suspect the games in Zimbabwe probably over now as well with them voting against india.

Why was Uthappa dropped by India?

Didn't have the greatest record when he played for india before.
tended to struggle with the moving ball.
plus pretty difficult getting into an indian team involving Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dravid, laxman, Ganguly, Yuvraj, Gambhir and so on.

Too late for a Yuvraj style resurgence?

I think he kind of had that for a bit a few years back? Can't remember how many games he played but was after a lot of them retired?

So if India back out of the CT, I'd guess WI will come in?

Bad news for those who have bought tickets for India games.
