depends what you mean by 'young' cricketers, but a shout out for Cameron Steel at Durham. Turned 22 this week and with a chance of scoring 1000 runs in his first full season, at a ground where many experienced top order batsmen fail to thrive, particularly early season. 806 runs so far at 44's, top score of 224, 2 hundreds, 3 fifties, 6 wickets at 29's.

surprised a few of us this year, with his performances

17-year-old Washington Sundar has made a splash on his Duleep Trophy debut, striking a brilliant 88 to help India Red take a 184-run first innings lead in the five-day final. The teenaged off-spinner then claimed his maiden 10-wicket match haul in first-class cricket to seal the impressive victory.

Aiden Markram really is in good form. Over the last month he has made his Test debut and his lowest score in any kind of cricket has been 82 yesterday.

His average for the month is 96.71.
