the BBC's pundits (all England supporters, I think), average out at Aus winning around 2.4 to 1 (outcome of the series)

Should someone survey an Australian bunch of pundits, chances are that it will be about 3.5 to 1.Not that this means anything though.

it never does, but they all need to appear relevant or their incomes dry up

Just about everyone reckons England will take one test, though, maybe two. Adelaide is favourite as the groupthink it that the pink ball, evening conditions and nature of the wicket will suit the England bowlers. I'm not so sure - Australia can bowl with the pink ball too, and England will still have to bat well to win. And in most D/N tests, the evening session hasn't been anything like as lively as the pre-game hype as predicted.

In terms of previous history (going back 30 years or so) Melbourne has been England's best ground, with 3 wins, and it's where England came closest to being competitive last time (I still can't believe how they managed to throw away being 110 runs in front with 10 wickets in hand on that third day. I was there in the crowd, and I don't think I've ever been so miserable watching a game of cricket. It was an unbelievable capitulation. but I digress).

Brisbane is of course England (and every other team's) worst ground in Australia. But who knows? As Cook said, records are made to be broken.

Well, Perth is worse for England I think. Might as well give that to Australia now.

I sort of fancy England in Melbourne, as if it's overcast it will swing. But if ENgland lose the first two before they lose at the WACA, they may be too feeble to resist.

Funny how when England used to go to the Ashes already pre-beaten, around the nineties, they often used to nick a Test towards the end. That feels less likely now.

England will lose at in Perth. They either need to not lose in Brisbane or win in Adelaide to keep the series competitive.

England already holding the Ashes does at least put some pressure on the hosts, as level is behind for the Aussies.

It was reversing at the WACA last year for Rabada. And by all accounts, Anderson got it to reverse in the warm-up. The conditions have changed a bit.

also speculation that Woody might come in for Perth. He has reversed it pretty well for Durham in the past

It always reverses in Perth, and the Aussies have the best reverse swing bowler around in the last Mitch.

I don't think the conditions will give England's bowlers more of an edge, I just think that the day night game could end up being a bit of a lottery which, at 50/50, gives England their best chance of taking the win.

The kind of reverse I saw last year with even Philander reversing it made me feel it was played in Asia and not at the WACA. Hard to remember it reversing for as long as it did last year. And after Day 1, there was hardly any bounce. It didn't seem like one of those Australian tracks to me

Quite a lot of things seem to happen in Perth....

The England and Wales Cricket Board are investigating reports that wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow “headbutted” Australia batsman Cameron Bancroft during a night out in Perth earlier on the tour Down Under.

With England facing certain First Test defeat – Australia need just 56 runs on the final day in Brisbane with all 10 wickets in hand – the reports add further scrutiny on a side that is already having to deal with Ben Stokes’ absence from the tour. Stokes remains in the United Kingdom under police investigation without charge after his involvement in a late-night incident in Bristol.

According to Fox Sports News in Australia, an incident occurred between Bairstow and Bancroft outside The Avenue Hotel in Perth, where England were playing a warm-up match against a Western Australia Cricket XI at the start of the month.
