Maybe that was why they were so uncritical of Cook's captaincy.

only when it is man-against-beast in a fair-battle-of-wits-and-survival.

(if it is a matter of hunting his own food, I don't really have a problem with it - but is this a case of that?

Think Cook will have to be vice-captain. Who are going to be the slip fielders, Cook, Root ......

hmmm

is it only Cooky who uses an exocet missile to kill a small deer, or does Glenda use one too when he goes for a stroll in the Serengeti?

I heard Ali, Bairstow and Broad mentioned somewhere.

There is the warm-up game between the Tests and Root won't be playing in that, so a captain will be needed, probably Vince.

I think Bairstow would be fine for vice-captain but Cook has the experience.

As for Anderson in 3rd slip, what happens when he is bowling? Root will probably be slip fielder for Ali.
We have a choice of 12th man when someone goes off the field (Overton, Ball, Crane, Ballance, Foakes). I have the bowling as Broad, Anderson, Woakes, Finn and Ali. :)

I think England will line up:

Stoneman/Cook/Vince/Root/Malan/Bairstow/Moeen/Woakes/Ball/Broad/Anderson.

Though only Mason Crane is certainly not going to play in the first game. Perhaps Foakes, but he could conceivably make it. Anyone who performs in the warm ups (except Crane) will play in Brisbane.

Is that the Ball who has 2 Test wickets at 114.00
His ODI series don't look good either.

Well, not sure anyone stands out for that spot. Finn is out of favour and a late addition. Don't know what to expect from Overton. I wouldn't have Vince, but he's going to bat at three in Brisbane. Ball looks like a flat pack Stuart Broad to me, but he's always around the side, and if it's anyone's turn, it's his.

IMO too harsh to judge ball on a couple of tests, i think he will be very handy in OZ, i rate him, hope he gets a chance

Quite a few names unfamiliar to the average Aussie: Stoneman, Vince, Malan, Ball, Crane - even Woakes is someone heard of, but I don't think we've seen, have we?
