Umpires speak to Cameron Bancroft about working on ball

Not a good sign to be involved into ball tampering controversy . Will he lose fans :?:

There is no need to possess the yellow object on a cricket field. The possession of that object itself says they were upto something which is out of the way. What purpose will that yellow object serve except for ball tampering. Moreover, the images also shown he is trying to hide it. To me it all seems like they wanted ot and probably they did tamper the ball. With South Africa having an upper hand in the match with a decent lead considering low scoring games in SA this year (In India series as well as this series), the Aussie management gave orders to tamper the ball and look to get back in match by unfair means. This will get Smith and Cameron the label of ball tamperers. Faf already has lost lot of reputation because of ball tampering and now there will be probably few more cricketers to that list.

Bancroft, Smith admit to ball-tampering :facepalm

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/22897468/bancroft-smith-admit-ball-tampering

"I had discussions with the match officials, I've been charged with attempting to change the condition of the ball," Bancroft said after play in Cape Town. "We had a discussion during the [lunch] break and I saw an opportunity to use some tape, get some granules from the rough patches on the wickets and change the condition, it didn't work, the umpires didn't change the ball. I was cited on the screen and that resulted in me shoving it down my trousers."

"It was the leadership group's idea. Poor choice and we deeply regret our actions. The coaches weren't involved. It was purely the leadership group who came up with this. This is the first time it has happened under my leadership. We saw this game as such as an important game. We've seen the ball reversing through this series and this ball didn't seem like it was going to go. It's such poor actions. Deeply regrettable and wont happen again. I can promise you. I can promise you this is the first time it has happened.

"I wont consider stepping down [from captaincy]. I still think I am the right person for the job. Today was a big mistake on my part and on the leadership group as well. I have to take control of the ship. This is something I am not proud of. It's something I hope I can learn from and come back from. I am embarrassed. It is a big error in judgement."

Think this will be his last series. Needs to be sacked. Started this thread with great hope but turns out to be just "Yes Sir" kind of person. No logic and reasoning of his own.

I would like to see him replaced with Matt Renshaw.

I feel a bit sorry for the guy. If the captain and vice captain, who are two of the games biggest names at the moment, specifically ask you do it then that's a lot of pressure and he may have felt his career would be damaged if he didn't do it. Real blame lies with the senior leadership group - where I struggle to believe it was just Warner and Smith.

as a Durham supporter, I'm thrilled at the prospect of all those 3 ball 2's that he's going to score for us in 2019
