Under 19 are starting to tour more as well now so the younger players tend to see more conditions and was going to post this yesterday on another thread about club cricket but indian ranji players are still coming to the uk to play club cricket during the summer.
hull CC had an indian player recently that played for Gujarat lions.
was going to say on that thread that player do still come but maybe not in huge numbers like before or in every team or league.

believe most of the current test team have played quite a bit of club cricket in England during their early careers or youth times.
Arjun tendulkar plays for Ealing CC and MCC.

I think India lost in NZ not too long ago which isn't a great record to have on the resume of a side hoping to win in SA, Australia and England.

And (since 2013) Indian pace bowlers don't have a substantial record outside Asia and WI.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... pe=bowling

But I think they should win in England, particularly if Anderson has retired as India have too much class, man for man, in their batting. Might do well in SA, but if Australia keep this attack together, I'll be surprised if India win there.

India are also relying a lot on not getting their two main pace bowlers injured, certainly more than the non Asian teams, in games played outside Asia.

But if they win one series, draw one and lose one that should easily confirm them as the number one side (whatever the rankings say).

india haven't been to NZ since 2013/14 season.
also the pace bowlers haven't been outside Asia or WI since 2014/15 season, the last time they actually played a test England still had cook as captain for the ODI team plus I think Shami in particular improved loads since then, he was still learning during that period and a poor tour to Australia damaged a lot of his stats there.
Same with Bhuvi he was middle pacer then and was only trusted to play in England and now he is a lot more quicker and got a lot more skills and could bowl with the old ball, 3-4 yrs bhuvi was one dimensional and both of them were low 20 3-4 yrs ago and just at their peak years.
Although apart from that the pace attack then wasn't special and Aaron, Yadav etc were whacked out of the park in Australia.
Ishant isn't a leader of the attack and he had to be because india had no one else that could do the job then considering Shami and Bk were inexperienced 4 yrs ago.
Should be a good sign for india that most of the Test team been abroad last time around only KL Rahul hasn't played abroad fully yet but he did play 2 test in Australia.

yeah most people are saying they should be targeting England and SA, they have a good opportunity to do well in both those countries and agree about Australia that will be a tough series.
India vs England on paper should be a cracker, a very hard series to call.
England slight favourites because of home conditions.

I appreciate the bowlers have improved, it's just that they still have to prove themselves. Logically they should do better in more helpful conditions, but it's likely that they won't have as much scoreboard pressure on their side. They'll be bowling to the worst batting side of all those three sides for at least 30 years, so that's in their favour.

This is a major issue. Even if our one pacer out of the three (Bhuvi, Shami and Ishant) gets injured we will struggle. The availability of pace bowlers who have succeeded at international level is to the bare minimum and the pool of quality pace bowlers is just not there should an injury strike. Shami is injured quite often.

TBH think most team would struggle to get 200 on that deck on day 1 and 2.
was quite bowling friendly on day 1 and for the most part of day 2.
around 200 was about par.

in the first two innings so far, barring Faf and AB partnership which had quite a bit of play and miss as well none of the batting actually looked settled.
think even india admitted yesterday they allowed SA to score 30-50 runs too many and that around 220-230 was par, so yeah think reaching 200 when most of the front line batsman failed is an achievement when you facing Rabada, Morkel, philander and Steyn on that wicket.
is like scoring 250-300 in a rank turner facing Warne, Kumble, Murali, Bishan bedi etc.
prettty good achievement that although I suspect batting will get easier tomorrow and for the rest of the game so it should be interesting to see how india bowl when the pitch gets flatter, big test for Ashwin and the rest of the bowlers tomorrow, although kohli got 5 bowlers to call upon now.
can't really remember the last time india actually had 5 genuine bowlers in an overseas/outside Asia/wI test before.
not sure Stuart binny really counts because not sure he bowled 12 overs in the first innings and 4 overs in the 2nd innings so far.

Suspect Ashwin might do quite well in this series, he doesn't have the pressure to bowl 30-40 over plus an innings and expected to take majority of the 20 wickets, he can now bowl when the conditions suit him and can plan dismissal while tying up an end.
thought Ashwin did that role quite well in the first innings, generally bowled 7 overs to quicken up the over rate and slow down the run rate and in doing so he took 2/21 in 7 overs.
last time around he was struggling to take wickets and not really creating chances or pressure either although last time around the pace men were all over the place this time around he had bhuvi, Shami, Bumrah and Pandya bowling decent stuff and pace.

200 really wasn't par....it didn't do that much....normal amount of seam movement....just batsmen on both sides gifted wickets away...300-350 was good score on that wicket not 200.
