Indian pace attack watch

It was probably the first time ever in Indian cricket history in the third test on tour of SA this month that we played 5 pacers. A memorable day for sure considering pace bowling attack has been our weakness in the past. Now the pace attack is no more our weak point. The increased number of pace bowlers who can consistently bowl in 140's and hit 145 plus is a remarkable change. The credit of this turnaround goes to NCA, Coaches over there, the technical committee for pitches revamp, the think tank and more importantly to the pacers themselves.

It is indeed an achievement that we won against SA, in SA within 4 days inspite of almost one sessions time being lost.

As of now Bhuvi and Shami are India's top 2 pacers followed by Ishant and Jas.

Bhuvi has increased his pace in last ueueear without compromising the ability to hit the right line and length on different wickets. He can move the ball both ways. He is our five fer specialist.

Shami consistently hits 138 plus. Actually he was bowling in 140's more consistently before his recent injury. Can also reverse swing.

Ishant has good enough pace even after many years of bowling. There is improvement in the runs that he used to leak. In recent times he is keeping runs under check from one end.

Jas hits 145 frequently. He clocked 148 this series. Got a five fer in first innings of the final test and few more wickets in second innings as well. He will be there more frequently as part of the test squad henceforth.

Hardik bowls in 140's but he is not a specialist bowler. Needs to be developed as all rounder . Has to work upon his bowling for sure. But whenever we tour outside Asia, he will be considered as he is the best of limited pace all rounders we have. Lot to improve though.

Umesh Yadav has done badly. Neither is there any control over his line or length, nor is he taking five fer. Think it will be tough for him to feature in playing 11 or even t the squad. He used to get reverse though but that is not what he should be kept for .

The Under 19 has shared great potential. I liked Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti's bowling in this 2018 U-19 WC. Both bowled consistently in 140's. One moving it into the batsman at raw pace while other moving it away.
Mavi has already suffered one injury to knee . But he is back strongly. He now bowls inswingers. He is around 142 and he bowled one at 143 this WC.

Ishant Phorel is 135 kph bowler. He twisted his ankle and is probably now out of the WC.

Arshdeep Singh the lefties medium pacer is clocking in 125 to 133 kph, moving away from the eighties, but he has managed to take wickets and backup up Kamlesh and Mavi quite well. His advantage is height. He is 6"3.

Kamlesh will usually move it away as a RH bowler. Kamlesh was usually around 145 and his fastest was 149 kph.

The bowling coach of U19 team is Paras Mhambrey who was a swing bowler and represented Mumbai. Played for I did but not much. Hope he develops them further.

Another bowler who impresses is Navdeep Saini. He bowled in 140's too in this Ranji season. He has managed to hurry up the batters with his pace. I feel he will be in squad for England soon. The think tank actually sent Navdeep as net bowler just before third test. He deserved it imo considering how he bowled in the Ranji finals for Delhi when his peers where struggling during the match turning partnership between Akshay and Aditya . Vidharbha won the finals however Navdeep effort was very impressive. No wonder he went to SA as nets bowler.

Indian pace attack now is at its best at various levels. After decades finally we Indian fans are seeing the drastic improvement in pace attack.

Swing wise, Bhuvi will be deadliest of them all. Shami is not yet fully fit. If he stays fully fit then he will be our second best there. It's tough for Jas to swing given his action and trajectory, buy then he will get seam movement. Is the England series after IPL because there could be some injury by the time it finishes. Overall I expect our team to do better in England than we did in SA. We may play 5 pacers on that tour because I think rain falls frequently in your country and once the ball goes to outfield it will make Ashwin difficult to grip the ball. So 4 specialist pacers and Hardik as backup will be a good attack to exploit English conditions.

What we lack now is a leader of the bowling attack. At times Bhuvi is the leader at times Shami. Depends who is in better form in the match or series. Ishant had lots of time to evolve as leader of the pace attack since Zak retires but he could not do that role. We will need someone who we can say he is the best of the pack and such a bowler will be our strike bowler for lot of years to come. Just like say we had / have Sachin and Virat as leader of batting. The form of leader of the bowling attack must last for year and he should not lose performance over few years at least. That has been downfall of Indian pacers usually. They came into scene, made name for an year then declined. Now the options are more and lit better. So an injury to a pacer will not affect our squad to England that much.

Too far considering pacers can get injured anytime. We have lot of cricket before that I suppose. But if all our bowlers are fit, we will come with a better pace bowling attack this time.

Was getting laughed at couple of months ago for saying that I really liked the way the pitches in Domestic cricket in india, how the BCCI have worked very hard on the pitches and getting the best possible players coming through.
here the proof just look at how many fast bowlers that are coming through the game in india.

I remember 2007 when the Indian swing bowlers out performed the England attack.

Must be true to say that didn't happen this time, regarding outbowling the hosts on their own pitches. That 07 attack might not have had the same pace, but its achievement was greater. Strong England side too.

Kamlesh and Shivam get IPL bids, well higher than their base prices. Both will play for KKR. They will get to learn a lot form outright pace bowler Johnson. Kallis is their mentor which will be of great help. Hope Kallis also mentors Legend. It will be great if kamlesh and Shivam are preferred over legend who also in KKR squad. Better to rest legend because he has been a huge flop in IPL.

RP had pace and bounce. Sreesanth had pace too. Zak was slowest of them.

Compared ot Zak, RP and Sreesanth the attack of Shami, Bhuvi, Ishant, Jas will be a upgrade for sure at least on paper. I think this attack will even outperform the attack on field.

K M Asif is another pace bowler from Kerala. Kerala is one team which has outright pacers like Asif, Thampi and Warrier.

Asif consistently averages 140 and he has touched 145.

Kamlesh and Shiva bowled excellent spells against Pakistan. Ishan wrecked havoc through the Pakistan batting lineup. The pacers had them 20/3 and set the victory.

Shivam Mavi:
4 overs 3 maiden overs 6 runs.
Bowled 3 maiden overs in a row creating pressure from one end. Shiva clocked 145k.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti:
5 overs 1 maiden 7 runs.
Clocked 145.

Ishan Phorel:
6 overs 2 maiden 17 runs 4 wickets.
Was bowling around 127. Will probably bowl again in high 130's once he plays few more matches lost injury.

Brilliant show by pace attack. Nice to see that Ishant has recovered from injury .His pace was not as usual but I guess it was I mention ally lower or less due to injury. Got good bounce though. Good that he is back with such a performance in high pressure Semi final versus Pakistan.

Always nice to have the full strength pace attack in New Zealand.

Hopefully Shami will get his mojo back. Umesh has fallen away

when we next go to Aus, it might be worth taking the U19 pair as pace is more of a factor in Aus -
