I have just read about this. I cannot begin to describe my disappointment. I think anger will follow.

Smith cannot be captain anymore, surely. I'm not sure if I'd be happy with him playing for Australia anymore.

CA need to come down hard, and quickly, and strongly. I expect that Sutherland is making plans to fly tomSA right now. The Leadership Group. Nice and vague. Vague won't do. Sutherland needs to find out the truth behind all of this, andI think that this group should ALL be suspended.

It won't happen, but I'd like to,see the rest of the tour cancelled, SA declared winners 3-1/2-1/whatever, and Australia sent home with their heads bowed low.

I am embarrassed.

The damage this does to cricket in Australia will be seen in course, but it has to be immense.

Australia ball-tampering scandal

Postby mikesiva » Sat Mar 24, 2018 7:38 pm

I think that's a bit harsh.

IMHO if du Plessis got three demerit points for Hobart then a similar punishment should apply here.

I must admit the controversies have made me even more interested!

Rabada vs Smith
Warner vs de Kock
Mrs Warner vs sonny bill williams
Bancroft vs the ball

What next?

Dont forget CSA officials photos with spectators with Sonny Bill masks. I mean that was pretty shocking. Only one has lost his job.

I don't really care about Fafs punishment and what he got. Australia needs to be better than that. Today they were not.

Australia and ball tampering is just something i thought would not happen. Time to lead by example. Show the world CA wont stand for it and set a precedent. Other teams ball tamper and Australia has always come down hard on them. I would like to see a ban to any player involved.

I really can not believe Smith will be captain for the next test.

Who though?

Surely not Warner. The "leadership group" are behind this cheating. Sure, Smith is the main leader, but several others are at least implicated.

Smith has history with cheating with the DRS "brainfade"

Someone needs to clamp down on it as it tarnishes his greatness long term

I agree with yuppie and GJ but, sadly, it’s just another example of the appalling ‘standards’ of behaviour right across the cricketing world, both on and off the field.

The word ‘professional’ also stands for honesty and integrity - not much of that about these days.

People on here often saying England are the most hated team on the planet.

Think after this series Australia may have usurped them. Lehman, Warner and Smith are all very unpleasant individuals and now cheats, and thick cheats to boot.

From the Aussie press i have read, they seem to be putting the boot in which is good. It means something should be done, more than just demerit points from the ICC. Well i hope so.

If CA don't do anything then for me I think it will be pretty tough to be interested in the national team. It sounds stupid, but it almost feels like a huge betrayal to all supporters of the Australian team.

Not stupid at all, Yuppie. That is exactly what I feel.

I know plenty of people who have stopped supporting Aus do to their on-field behaviour. I have allowed a few OTT actions by, comforting myself with "at least they don't cheat".

What now?

Play hard but fair, i kinda subscribed to it knowing that many times it was OTT. But ball tampering is what other countries do........ Reading a few friends comment on facebook, it seems many supporters feel the same way GJ

It certainly looked like amateur hour out there watching the videos of it. What made them think that suddenly trying ball tampering was a good idea?

This series is gone for me now, and it does feel like a defining moment in following Australia. Ill read what CA say about it all but i think that might be it for me. Shame as i was starting to enjoy aspects of this team.

To me it kinda feels like that moment when Pakistan captain Salman Butt pressured Amir into bowling those no balls. Probably nothing much will happen compared to that incident, I think ICC have a 1 game ban for ball tampering. But it is still downright cheating. It's unacceptable for any player to do it, but it's even worse when the captain instructs them to do it. Not sure how you can keep a player like Smith as captain, he is clearly not a responsible leader.
