Also are those stats above right as I saw some 78mph balls from him I swear?

It's also a range not an average speed which can be misleading

He needs to do a woakes and put on 5mph over the next few years

Going to the subcontinent and Australia bowling 80mph left arm dobbers is not going to go well

He certainly has time on his hands though

With Chris Wakes 29 im not sure he is a long term replacement either. And in 12 matches away from home he averages over 60.

Its almost like England do not need to find a replacement for Anderson and Broad in English conditions as there are enough county bowlers out there who can do the job, as shown by Woakes and Curran. England actually need to find a new bowler who can perform in conditions away from home.

A&B's records away from home are pretty average. They, especially Anderson, tend not to go for many, but they take wickets very slowly. Though they've had their moments.

SRs for pace bowlers this century.

On page two. Broad 68.2 (next to Pradeep). Average 33.5. Anderson 68.4 (next to Lakmal), average 34.2.

Stokes has a better SR and average and he got an old tatty ball to bowl with and wasn't allowed a second slip under Captain Steely.

Maybe the answer is Stokes, and bat him at 7?

7 feels like a waste.

My favourites are Tongue 24.38 (Worcs) and Brookes 24.42 (Warks) both the right age 20 and 19, both fast and tall. I wonder if they will go on the Lions tour.

If this were to happen Broad could play in the BB and IPL.

These have to be the type of players that England need to push through.

I am a fan of bringing a young bowler in. Debuts Broad 21, Anderson, 20, Finn 20, Curran 20 (MOM & POS in his first series)
South Africa Steyn 21, Morkel 22, Rabada 20, Ngidi 21

I have a feeling that Anderson, while he started early, only nailed his place down a few years later. Flintoff the same. Sometimes earlier isn't better

I've just checked and he only really became an integral part of the side circa 2007/2008, so 5 years and mid 20's before he perfected his art.
