I'm assuming this is for his longevity as much as anything. After all, he has scored a third as many runs again as England's previous most prolific scorer, and has appeared in more tests than anyone else for England. You could argue that if that doesn't deserve a knighthood for services to cricket, no-one is ever going to get one.
I am a little surprised, still, as I thought they'd more-or-less stopped giving out sporting knighthoods except for Olympians who win multiple golds.
