Bit of a blast from the past from Roy Kaia in the blink and you miss it 50 over tournament in Zimbabwe.

Kaia made his solitary ODI apperance against Pakistan in 2015 - but looked pretty tidy today as he got 4-30 for the Mountaineers versus Mashonaland. Kaia has now got 3 or more wickets in his last 5 innings.

Tinashe Kamunhukamwe - remember the name.

Has only played three ODIs but looks a class outfit. Got 81 from 56 balls today in a DLS affected game where his Mashonaland side beat the MidWest Rhinos. Could be a tasty budget T20 option.

The lad also made a half century in his last game so could be one to watch when Zim go to Bangladesh.

Wesley Madhevere looks like a talent.

After being the highest Zimbabwean wicket taker in the Under 19 World Cup with 10 wickets - finishing joint 5th overall - he then joins up with Mashonaland to take 4-28 to help them beat the Rangers. He coupled the fourfer with a half century.

Zim have a number of good bowlers coming through.

Saw Ainsley Ndlovu did well today as his team, Matebaland, beat the MidWest Rhinos with him getting 4-36.

The Rhinos only got to 112 in pursuit of 161. With the win Matebland take top place with only one round of games to play.

Random Zimbabwean Cricketer of the Day goes to the marvellously named Remembrance Nyathi who is 109* in the Mid West Rhino's Logan Cup game vs Rangers.

Tendai Chisoro appears to have dropped off the scene a bit for Zimbabwean cricket but is still looking impressive in the domestic scene. He got 3-50 off 20 overs today to continue the Mid West Rhinos spell of success against Rangers.

Tafara Chingwara got an odd fivefer today. He got the last three wickets for the Mid West Rhinos and then two of the first three when Rangers were asked to follow on.

Was an abhorrent game for Rangers as they were all out for just 89 in the follow on.

Caught part of an intra-squad 4 day game Zimbabwe have been playing to prepare for their upcoming series against Afghanistan and Pakistan. Was a decent watch to bridge the gap between the India game and the Pakistan game.

William Mashinge has been a gun bowler in the Logan Cup for a couple of years now and might get a crack as he got a five-fer today for the team of players based in the South of Zimbabwe. The Northern team were all out for 235. The Southerners were 110-1 at Stumps and looked in the box seat.

After impressing with the ball yesterday, the Southern side showed what they could do with the bat.

Ryan Burl was the stand out performer with Sikandar Raza getting 85 to help the Southern side to 439-5 - a lead of 204.

This game petered out to a draw thanks to a severely rain affected day yesterday - however Timycen Maruma impressed on the last day.

He has only played 3 Tests over the last 8 years but he looked a class act today as he dismantled the Souths bowlers to get 174 off 132 balls. He smashed more sixes than fours and ended with a strike rate of 131.82. It is a good return to actions from the player - who contracted Covid in November.

Zimbabwe were banned for political interference with the cricket board.

They've since been reinstated, but too late to take part in the t20 World Cup.

A Blessing couldn't disguise how superior the Northerns were today.

England tried a tournament like this once....briefly.....and then scrapped it....as they are wont to do.

The Northen clubs XI are facing off against the Southern Clubs XI in three one day games. As it stands the Northerners should be well in the box seat as they went off for rain one run short of the Southerners total of just 114. The target was so small thanks to a fivefer from ex-Northants player Blessing Muzarabani.

The other three games will be played on Wednesday and Friday.

Sikandar Raza was the star of this twice yearly face off pitting the Northern teams vs the South. Raza scored 131 of the North's 256 runs. In reply the South lost 4 wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs.


This is the North's to lose.

Always a bit heart breaking when a team puts up a decent performance when the game is already buried. Such was the case for Southern Zimabwbe today. After getting the North put for 272 in their second innings, they were in need of a huge 427 runs. After posting only 12 in their first dig it seemed unlikely. At 8-1 and 20-2, it seemed a humbling was on the cards. A staunch middle order resistance, led by Tafadzwa Tsiga, managed to haul them to 238 - still a gulf of 188 runs.

The second game starts on Sunday.
