Forgive me please , Professor , for being a little skeptical of the value of Twitter Polls :)

More to the point is that Buttler has obviously rendered himself undroppable (even without his Ed Smith Special Pass) in the short term. The question now is whether England continue with him in the role of wicket keeper despite his deficiencies -particularly standing up to the spinners ; or ask him to revert to being a pure batsman (this time batting at six , none of this nonsense of going in at seven as some sort of "finisher").

This of course will have consequences for the rest of the top order batting. So how it all plays out over the medium term will depend on how other players cope with the adjustments and indeed whether the "new" Buttler is an ongoing factor or simply a purple patch for an average player whose results then fall back to the mean...

Might look at this again in a year.

Couldn't agree more....if anything it exposes the fickle nature of the England cricket fan.
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."
