In the last 15 years or so Lara & Sachin have been the best whilst the likes of Kallis, Ponting, Jayawardene, Dravid, Inzamam were a class below IMO.

Would probably add Fleming to the above list too. All still a class above alot of what is knocking around at the moment.

My problem with Fleming was his failure to go on to make hundreds just like Mr Gayle.

Fleming of NZ??? if anyone adds him to the list there would be another 50 odd players who can be added and as far as I can remember Fleming really struggled against the Aussies. He was a graceful player but would come in a third or fourth list though he was a fine captain. Haq never succeeded against the best which includes SA or Aus but loved playing NZ, England and India.

Even Tendulkar played in a rubbish side in the 90's as he was the only player who would score runs when they would play away from home. WI at least had bowlers like Walsh, Ambrose and Bishop who continued to destroy opposition batting line-ups. No wonder India won just one match when playing away from home in the 90's.

The only bowlers to get Tendulkar out 5 or more times -

Bowled 1 - caught 4 - c/b 0 - lbw 3 - 8 Murali (18 Tests)
Bowled 1 - caught 3 - c/b 0 - lbw 2 - 6 Gillespie (8 Tests)
Bowled 1 - caught 1 - c/b 1 - lbw 3 - 6 McGrath (9 Tests)
Bowled 0 - caught 1 - c/b 2 - lbw 2 - 5 Lee (12 Tests)
Bowled 1 - caught 2 - c/b 1 - lbw 1 - 5 Anderson (6 Tests)
Bowled 0 - caught 3 - c/b 1 - lbw 1 - 5 Cronje (9 Tests)
Bowled 2 - caught 1 - c/b 1 - lbw 1 - 5 Donald (11 Tests)

He has been dismissed 250 times - bowled 44, caught 108, c/b 39, lbw 51 and run out 7 times. Also 1 stumping by Giles.

Dismissed by 134 different bowlers.
The England ones were -
4 - Lewis
3 - Hoggard
2 - Cork, Panesar, Caddick, Flintoff
1 - Giles, Dawson, Fraser, Ealham, Udal, Malcolm, Salisbury, Tufnell, Collingwood, Tremlett, White, Hemmings, Williams, Vaughan, Swann

Australia 52 dismissals (31 Tests)
South Africa - 37 (22)
England - 35 (24)
Sri Lanka - 33 (25)
New Zealand - 27 (19)
Pakistan - 25 (18)

Interesting analysis -- If Giles, Dawson,Udal, Silisbury, Collingwood Hemmings, Williams, Vaughan and Tremlett can dismiss him it shows that even the humble can have their day.

It has to be said though that the ball Vaughan bowled to get Tendulkar was a jaffer. He's never bowled one anything like that good before or since, but what a time to do it...

Interesting the bowlers who have had regular success against him, especially from England (Hoggard, Anderson and Lewis), not a big fan of swing clearly.
Anything can happen with a round ball.

SRT averages 62 in England and his knock at Edgbaston in 96 was one of the best I have seen against swing bowling under overcast conditions. The next highest score in that innings was 18! One of his favourite shots is that straight drive but sometimes your strength can become a weakness and early in his innings he has a tendency to try that shot without moving his feet which gives a chance for swing bowlers.

If I am right Anderson got him out at Oval with SRT looking to drive and Hoggy did the same at Lords during the 02 tour. Finally Lewis wasn't a swing bowler.

A few innings that Grey had missed can be found here: http://www.cricketweb.net/blog/features/259.php

Among all his great knocks, perhaps the 136 against Pakistan at Chepauk stands out. Over the years, by far the luckiest Indian fans have been those who watch test cricket at Chennai, and it is also Tendulkar's own very special ground.

I have been the lucky one to watch that innings. One of the best innings that went in losing cause. A classic test innings :salute
