I have to collect humble pie because i always felt Smith was not worthy as specialist batsman given his technique .But he had successful tour of India and England and this one as well.

He always looked good when batting, but I questioned his mental strength (he's passed that) and his ability to play a long innings, which is something a number five needs to do. He hasn't so far, been able to play one.

My humble pie is still in the oven.

Australia.

I thought they had a shot , at home ...but I always thought a 5-0 win was a figment of the fevered imagination of Warne , McGrath , etc...

So I will have a slice.

Johnson. I couldn't see why we wouldn't handle his pace, I thought he'd be erratic in the longer format, and his head would drop. I really got that wrong, obviously. I'll claim Lyon and Harris in the Bragging Pie though, as I championed those from way out on the Guardian when Aussie posters didn't seem to think they were going to be that influential.

in fairness, AC.... who else would have prdicted that Harris would be able to play so many matches back to back to back. It must be the longest sustained period that he's stayed fit.

I have acknowledged in various threads my humble pies over Smith, who I thought would never make it, Warner, who I only saw as a T20 specialist, and Johno whose control I doubted over anything more than 4 overs in a match, but I haven't done it officially.

so in the spirit of bon homme and putting things right in order to move on

Smith
Warner
Johno

my apologies to you all

can I claim bragging pie on MJ and Harris. MJ especially, the only thing that annoys me is that i didn't actually go and put any money on him to be man of the series! :strop

on the humble pie, i wasn't vocal with my thoughts but I really didn't expect Stokes to take a fifer or score a century, he's done much better than I expected. Also, Lyon has done well - I thought he'd be the weak link in the Aus attack and that Twatto would have to bowl more, which obviously wasn't the case.

I probably should hold my hands up and take a slice of pie about England - I thought they were a better side than they are, but they proved me wrong and were cr@p.

Mahela Jayawardene :salute

Not a hundred but that was arguably his best innings ever outside the subcontinent. Any misconceptions on my part about the pitch having gone to sleep have also been laid to rest by that final session..

For underestimating the entire sri lanka batting line up, never expected them to win a series in england.

Only just. Wonder if India would've had the same killer instinct in a similar position. Dhoni would've probably given up and put all his fielders on the boundary when Moeen and Anderson were grinding it out!
