Indian ODI team - buidling to WC in Aus

Indian ODI team - buidling to WC in Aus

Postby Red Devil » Sat Aug 20, 2011 4:21 pm

great performance to win the WC :clap

However, Yuvi was outstanding and his bowling was very important ... not sure that we will get away with part-time spinners in the WC in Aus though.

The major problems for Ind look to be lack of firepower in the fast bowling and also a lack of depth to the batting line-up, so you would think that the BCCI might be ploughing some of it's vast resources into finding youngsters with the potential to be good fast bowlers and trying to make sure that they also learn to bat as well! Or is that too much to ask for?

Ind's weaknesses are likely to be exposed here during the forthcoming ODI series with Eng. Yuvi, Bhaji and Zak are all out - and where the hell is Nehra?!?

for a fully fit squad the XI I would pick in Eng would be Sehwag, Sachin, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvi, Dhoni, Bhaji, Praveen, Zak, Nehra / Munaf ... and there would still be problems with that side i.e. lack of batting depth

are there any players out ther that Ind should be looking at investing in to try and give us a chance in ODIs in seaming conditions in future and the Aus WC in particular?? I would say that Irfan would be one

Red
Pitches all the world are flat in ODIs.There will definitely be somebounce in Aus so guys who cant play the short ball might have problems but I dont think there will be much seam movement except maybe at Perth and Hobart.
However there will be more swing and seam movement in NZ.

so you think bowlers like Yuvi and Raina could be just as effective as seamers in Aus for the ODI's?

I think we need to find a couple of seam bowling all-rounders over the next 3/4 years

These days even in NZ the pitches are flat for One-day cricket and the white ball doesn't swing. In few years time there would be no swing bowler bowling in one-day cricket.

Grey
You are forgetting that from october onwards 2 new balls will be used from each end. That will definitely bring swing bowlers into play.

Yes I know that but a white ball doesn't do anything after 2-3 overs.

Indian bench strength being tested here ... good performance from Ind today considering everything, unlucky that the weather denied them what looked like their first international win of the tour.

Indian XI made up of players missing now ... would be favourites to beat the Ind team playing the series - and probably the Eng team as well.

i think ashwin will now become the frontline spinner for india, in limited overs cricket. They will start to phase harbajhan out, as he is no longer an attacking force, however he will continue to play tests, as there is no obvious suceessor in test matches yet.

that's fine, but Ind should be focusing on PK improving his batting (the talent is there) and getting Irfan going again - seam bowling all-rounders will be critical in the next WC

BCCI did set up the NCA at Bangalore. Some of the Indian bowlers were even trained in Australia. No results yet from both the camps. IMO it will come to a point during the next WC that think tank will decide to go for experience of Zak, Nehra, R P, Munaf and Praveen as main attack choices if they are fit and that is wise IMO . Virat i think will have to bowl few overs. It is good that he is being given the bowl in the ODI's. I think the combination will be 7 batsmen including Dhoni , 1 spinner, 3 pacers.

Sachin is likely to retire before the WC. Ajinkya has shown that he has made most of the chances than Murali. He is playing knocks in the 90's and thats a good score from a newcomer. Gautam has got used to No 3 by now with Kohli at 4. Yuvi will be in but the last time he toured Australia it was a miserable test series for him as he scored only 15 odd runs in 4 test innings. Off course in ODI there will be not many attacking fielders but still the onus is on him to get that performance off his back. I hope he does well being one of our key ODI batsmen.

Last but not the least, fitness is the key. Bowlers like Zaheer and batsmen of class of Gautam will be useless if they are unfit. So the BCCI and think tank has to rotate the players very well. We should try as little as possible to touch the bench strength of our batsmen, keepers and bowlers. it's not that good as there is a vast gulf in playing X1 and bench X1.

I agree Red.Irfan should be given another chance. He is a confidence player. If the management show faith in him then he might come good. The talent is there.I think India should build a team around a core of
Dhoni,Gambhir,Virat,Yuvi,Praveen,Ashwin.
Sachin and Zaheer wont be there. And unless Sehwag gets over his injury problems then he wont be there either.I'd like to see Rahane given a long run.Umesh Yadav should also be given a solid run in the side.Despite his figures,I have been impressed watching him bowl in this series.Any bowler who bowls a good outswinger at 145 kph is worth investing in.I agree Red.Irfan should be given another chance. He is a confidence player. If the management show faith in him then he might come good. The talent is there.I think India should build a team around a core of

i think the core of the batting should be set around..

Rahane
Kohli
Raina
Jadeja

the four new main stars of the indian batting line up, while the expereinced players like, dhoni, gambhir, sachin etc build round them, and that would be a very strong indian batting line up.

not sure I'd include jadeja in that - in terms of talent - Rohit will come through at some point

Aaron and Yadav look like decent prospects for the next WC - Aaron also averages 21 with the bat in FC cricket and 18 in list A at a SR of 160, so he can bat a little bit as well
