Indian ODI team - buidling to WC in Aus

What's buzzing in the world of cricket....

TBH I wanted Rishi Dhawan in so did many other but it was unlikely he was going to be picked for the world cup.

Not sure why Rishi dhawan doesn't get selected other than he isn't a international standard bowler or batsman in the selectors eyes.

I know people shouldn't use IPL to get selected for national teams but for players like Rishi dhawan and fast bowlers IPL is gold dust really since they can really impress the selectors by dismissing or bowling well to international players which proves he can be a international standard bowler which clearly the selectors don't think he is.
From memory he hasn't really done much with the bat or ball in the IPL games and I didn't really think is bowling was special so I suspect the selectors think the same thing.
Stuart binny still has a few good season with the bat in the IPL.

TBH it sounds like Six hitting and lower order batting was the main thing and not the bowling ability.
If Stokes or Bopara was Indian they would have been picked for the same role.

Sadly for batsman IPL isn't really a good tournament to get selected for the test team although the Selector do mainly pick the test team on Ranji trophy cricket.
Although for ODI and T20 teams the IPL generally as higher priority than the list A and t20 competition which is understandable since if they can't hit good bowlers in IPL or take/contain good batsman in IPL then they can't do it in international cricket either.

he's allowed to say that - it'll get Kohli extra motivated as well!

They have tried to use surprise packages against us quiet a few times against us by letting us know publicly. Basit Ali, Hasan Raza as their versions of Sachin. But then they stopped this tactic and continued with talking big like Saeed Ajmal who said something against us in one World Cup but they ended up with another WC loss against us. Then last week Afridi has talked big. Now they might use Sohail Khan in their old surprise element tactic against us. But we know who has won all WC matches between India and Pakistan. I really wish to see Afridi play in this WC, because it will be very pleasing to watch how he reacts after we shut up his big mouth by beating them once again in WC match. They do nothing but just put pressure on themselves. Whereas Dhoni even though he is captain tried to keep it low profile in pre match interview although he was more concerned from within about match. Even if our players talk about that match, we back it up by winning the WC match. It is so much fun when we beat a Pakistan team with Afridi than one without Afridi in WC match. In fact i wish India-Pakistan meet in finals and we beat them rather than beating in round or knockouts. Awesome moment it will be.

At the moment, if we could ignore the squad choices and think of a side for the WC, I would be looking at ...

Vijay
Rohit
Rahane
Kohli
Raina
Dhoni
Jadeja
Axar / Ashwin
Bhuvi / Shami
Kulkarni
Ishant

Vijay ahead of Dhawan and Rayudu is a no brainer.

Ishant is in because he gave some control at times in the test series, which is more than any other seamer managed. Kulkarni played for the A team in Aus not that long ago and did really well so we should give him a go in the warm-ups at least. If Kulkarni proves to be out of his depth then we probbaly play Bhuvi and Shami.

Bhuvi and Shami have been the bedrocks of the bowling in the last 18 months or so, but Bhuvi hasn't done too well since he came back from injury (not much to go on so hopefully he'll play the next couple of games and get back into his groove) while Shami has bowled some real rubbish in the tests, just hasn't done great in aus at all.

Umesh and Aaron have been huge disappointments - I had high hopes for them before the Aus tour started but they've been appalling - and please let's forget about Mohit and Binny.

Bhuvi is must as he is the better bowler than Umesh and Varun. At least he will keep runs down. Umesh and Varun neither are strike bowlers nor do the job of keeping runs down. They both will break Jade Dernbach's record of rpo some day.

His technique is fundamentally horrible for an opener in these conditions. A few more games won't solve a fundamental issue. An absolute sitting duck.
