Big problems stateside.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/891589.htmlThis is not good news for a variety of reasons;
1 - The game is growing in the US, but there's no direction, and therefore an uncertain future.
2 - The slice of the US market that the ICC craves is slipping away.
3 - With the US team no where near a WC qualification, Associates might find themselves being pushed further into the cold.
4 - If the game isn't growing globally, then there is a use by date.
I really hope this mess can be sorted out, especially with the popularity of T20 seemingly on the rise. With that in mind, however, I don't have much hope for Warney's planned venture. What US cricket does have is a good set up down in Florida, where I would love to see an expansion CPL team based, featuring players from the US, Canada and Bermuda, with 3 imports; the Florida Flamingos, that might work. The American media might then take a bit more interest in the game.
I guess some good news to come out of that part of the world is that in September, in Indianapolis, an Americas squad will be created in preparation for the WICB Super50 competition next year.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/890315.html One player who I think could become a breakaway star is Steven Taylor;
http://www.espncricinfo.com/usa/content/player/348133.htmlTaylor is already on the books with the Barbados Tridents, who are off to a good start in this current edition of CPL. He could well turn to be the trailbrazer US cricket needs.
"Hey, doll. Could you scare up another round for our table over here? And tell the cook this is low grade dog food. I've had better food at the ballgame, you know? This steak still has marks from where the jockey was hitting it." Al Czervik, aka Rodney Dangerfield in "Caddyshack" (1980)
