According to the internet, Lewis served six years of his sentence. Fair point about mules. Can't really disagree, although there has to be some disincentive.

Ideally they could cut a deal based on narking on the gangs, but I presume that's not practical.

But, as an aside, I think we should be running trials on legalising the whole lot and see how it goes. Providing the user takes resposibilty for the risks. I've read that crime mostly disappears.

ICC are to trial the use of a stop watch between overs in white ball internationals. The fielding side will have 60 seconds to begin bowling the next over. 3 infringements in one innings will see a 5 run penalty applied. Trial starts in December, so England will get to see it straight away..... "60 seconds? only 2 transgressions allowed? how unreasonable is that?"

I've been of the view for a while that ads in TV broadcasts are a substantial contributor to slow over rates. More than once at a live game I've seen everyone apparently ready to play, but they stand around for another 20 seconds to let the TV footage cut back.

Either that, or the TV cuts back in after the first ball of the over has been bowled. A while ago in India I wad watching a match where the broadcaster missed a wicket because the ads were still going in where the over started. The coverage came in at the celebrations. Then because a wicket had fallen, they cut right back to more ads :facepalm

I remember watching some TV coverage of the IPL in its first year and they cut to adverts after every 5th ball of the over and might have not returned until after the first ball of the next (although I'm less certain of that). That had stopped for season 2, so I imagine that there had been a big reaction from overseas broadcasters to the practice.

Some huge scores in this series, only one innings below 200. Presume the field dimensions are run friendly.

I never used to like Maxie, I thought he was a bit of a big time charlie, but then I went to a dribble match when Lancs chose the Riverside to play Essex in a QF and watched how much effort and energy he put into everything he did and I rather changed my mind

it's not international, but - I have just read that Tom Curran (as a Sydney Sixer) has been banned for 4 games for intimidating an umpire. 1 thing I read said prior to the game, I think. The clause being quoted speaks of during the match.

More to be revealed, I am sure.

It was before the game. Curran apparently was practicing his run up to the crease while waming up, and the umpire was concerned he kept following through onto the pitch. The umpire tried to raise his concerns with Curran, who seemingly ignored him and turned back to start another run up. The umpire decided then to stand in bowling crease to block him continuing, after which Curran apparently got angry and started shouting at the umpire to move. When he didn't, Curran then charged into a run up at full pace straight towards the umpire in a "playing chicken way", and the umpire was forced to move.

His team/player are claiming it wasnt intentional and a misunderstanding.

that's why i hope his intervention will be important. I doubt there is another player in world cricket with any sort of clout.

the argument that 4 day tests will reduce player workload is laughable, because it is blindingly obvious that any freeing up of time in a busy international calendar will be filled, by the bean counters, with even more lucrative T20's or ODI's

That said, have any Test matches since Christmas gone to five days?

Four day Test cricket is looking like a very real possibility.
