Must be a story behind Trent Bridge missing out twice.

Nothing for the new grounds too.

After what happened last time in the Ashes I'm surprised England are not making sure that their is a test match there every ashes.

Its a shame for Trent Bridge, im guessing it comes down to how many people can fit in, and how much money the ECB makes?

I guess all grounds will sell out, so the biggest ground method works. But TB is the non London Test that will fail to sell out last given progressively less attractive fixtures. Headingley is far more likely to have an empty ground for a minor game, and then Old Trafford.

I suppose TB should have redeveloped their ground with more seats, but even so, to miss out twice is harsh.

Not sure about the money, TB sustains higher ticket prices and Leeds in particular seems to rely on discounts.

Atherton on the selection process.

"The process by which the games were awarded was fair. There is a high degree of independence on the host venue panel and the balanced scorecard by which counties were measured was designed to reduce subjectivity as far as possible. When the recommendations went to the ECB for ratification, those with a conflict of interest excused themselves from the decision-making process."

50% of Tests are allocated to London which raise by far the greatest revenue so it is difficult to argue against that. Hard to justify selection of Swalec and Rosebowl as FranchiseT20 venues given their history of poor attendance.

Ather's is beginning to sound like a mouthpiece for ECB.

And Headingley staging them twice. Selection is totally independent-Mr Graves has no involvement

It appears that the ECB are assuming that an English summer from 2020 onwards will consist of 6 test matches, with Lords hosting 2 of them, so I'm not sure how that will work in a ashes summer..... unless they plan to host a one off test against Ireland in ashes year

2 Tests still scheduled for Lords in 2023 so, presumably, there'll be a one off Test against a lesser nation. Got to be good for cricket.
Trent Bridge has a capacity of only 17000 whereas the chosen Ashes test venues have capacities of at least 25000.

Welcome to the club, Westo!

Thanks, I join rather reluctantly because I find Athers a perceptive writer and commentator on cricket playing matters. The "independence" of the committee who ruled on venues appears to have been achieved by replacing Mr Graves by the "independent" Lord Patel of BRADFORD!!
The proliferation of fixtures awarded to Headingley to the exclusion of Trent Bridge begs the question as to whether this committee actually compared the revenues generated from International games in recent years at these 2 venues. The general impression of crowd sizes would suggest not.

Crushing defeat for Zimbabwe today, and Afghanistan winning a different way this time, with Rashid not the star (though still petty tidy). Zimbabwe outclassed.
