Star India CEO saying people only really watch 1 hour cricket anywhere in the world irrespective of the format.
"The economics do not drive the game. The popularity of the game drives the economics. If magically all the stadiums were to be full and everybody who loves cricket was watching Test cricket, we would kill each other to go and bid for the Test rights. But Test cricket has a two-fold problem and that needs to be recognized. One, most of the Tests people find meaningless. Even today when India and Pakistan play or England and Australia play, people get excited about it because there’s a context. Most of Test cricket there’s no context. Second problem with Test cricket is that there’s too much of it. Last year in this country, India played 13 Tests at home. So 65 days of Test cricket in India, where data shows a person sees one out of 30 hours played during a Test."

"It’s easy to misunderstand a broadcaster’s perspective because we seem to be the guys who are in it for the money, which is true. But you make money only when the fans like something. The fans have spoken that they love the T20 format. This whole model of going and buying ever-more expensive cricket rights is not sustainable. Consumption of sports here is lowest in world. Until that changes, business of sports is going to be tough."

Seems like star india ceo wants less days of test cricket in a year.
he said last season 13 home test was too many.

He'll always be remembered for that stunning tour of Australia, which is something.

I confess I thought he'd retired earlier in the summer when he was dropped from the test team

Change to DRS next month.

The fielding side won't lose their review if they are on the wrong side of an umpires call.

Also a player will no longer be given out on a bouncing bat - that's were a player dives in and makes his ground but the bat bobbles up with the momentum.

Always felt that was harsh.

Quoting myself from the Aus Domestic Comp thread, to get others' views on this:

new rule apparently

and I think that rule stinks.

Very, very un-Australian. It is in our nature to use all sorts of clever tactics to try to get one over the opposition.

If they are going to ban feigning a throw, then they should ban the switch-hit - using the same reasoning.

Can't see harm in feigning a throw as long it isn't intimidatory. So for me- fair dinkum.

Don't like that rule. It's a tactic. Bowlers sometimes act like they are trying to ball but pull out near the bowling crease to see what the batsman is trying to do.

I agree with the bouncing bat one

hate the umpires call change.............. makes a mockery of the 'preventing the howler' reasoning for DRS and shows what can be achieved when you pile enough pressure onto the authorities, for long enough. Now that they've got the umpires call rule changed, they'll start calling for unlimited reviews.............. and eventually they'll get them..... and this at a time when there are suggestions that the game should be speeded up in order to hot 4 day test matches. Crikey, they'll have to start a 4 day test at 9am and finish at midnight just to get 105 overs in thanks to all the reviews for every decision that a team or captain doesn't agree with.... or in actuality.... all the decisions that they think they might get away with if they just review everything

'Tis a slippery slope

and a nonsense
