I use to like Llyod but his Twitter antic and him being so weird/hypocritical as put me off him right now.

If I didn't actually read his tweets I would like him far more, very funny man but as many people have said he has been told or overplaying the crazy funny guy role and lot of the time it isn't coming across funny any more.

Ian Smith is my favorite commentator, such a shame that he only commentates on NZ games.

Ian Smith is becoming my fav commentator as well so sad he has Rugby commitments and can't really commentate much for Cricket.

Quite ironic if Simon Doull wasn't doing IPL, Ian Smith wouldn't even be doing this short tour of England because of his Rugby Commitments for Sky NZ.

Ian Smith is also a great Rugby commentator although I have no idea how his role for the rugby works.

Good article on Why Ian Smith is a good commentators.
he kind of like BBC Barry Davies in that he isn't a cricket Commentator but a Sports Commentators since he covers lots of sports in NZ.

We had this discussion elsewhere this week, GarlicJam was saying Smith annoys him (because apparently he is really NZ NZ NZ when commentating on rugby) in response to me saying that him and Jeremy Coney are possibly the best commentators for me.

Nasser Hussain and Coney... great stuff. I hated Hussain at one time, but I could listen to him all day now...

Guess Smith divides opinion, but I am certainly with you Powelly

Completely?

Childlike enthusiasm has been known to endear unknowledgeable first time viewers.

Not really, but I avoided any coverage of the IPL this year. I know I'm a great fan of T20 but I usually watch some. That said you could be right about first time viewers. An old friend of mine was saying how much she enjoyed watching when he was commenting before adding perceptively "I bet you can't stand him.

Yes I had pretty much the very same experience!

I find him annoying but I think that I am used to it so it doesn't grate as much.

It still grates.
