Twatto makes his comeback to grade cricket this weekend.

Cummins has been ruled out for the summer. :facepalm

Back to back summers ruled out for the entire season and it's already being suggested that he needs to lose his pace and go to Cooley school of dicking about with actions.

Not good signs at all, clearly thrown into Test cricket far too early.

He has only been bowling in t/20 cricket and as a result isn't strong enough to bowl at 90mph at the age of 19. It is about gradually increasing the workload on a young bowler by making him play a few fc games and maybe a test match or two. The more overs he bowls the stronger he will get. Why did he play that stupid CL? I also see that Cooley and co. will look to change his action now and that never helps.

SA have managed Dale Steyn very well. He too made his test debut at a very young age but has played only about 80 onedayers.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia-v ... 89248.html

I again go back to what the great Waqar Younis said about fast bowling,

"Biomechanists probably would disagree with me, but based on my experience, most fast bowlers in the 1980s and '90s never had people telling us to change or modify our actions, and that if we did not do it we would break our backs. Your body is your best judge. It learns over a period of time to adapt. These days Level 3 and 4 coaches put a lot of emphasis on certain specifics due to the numerous video cameras that have come into play. But I have always believed in allowing the bowler to play with his body and understand the best position and action for himself"

Ah, a bowling coach like Younis will help.

Look at Steyn and Anderson. Both are fit but it doesn't look like either of them have one great gym body. I can say that Siddle looks fit too.

Waqar Younis,

"So the point I am driving is: focus on the basics. Bowling and running were major parts of my training. I did very little gym because nobody was there to tell me that it could have helped with my strength. I guess that helped me in a way, because my body would not have coped with going to the gym and then bowling. The kind of action I had, which was very side-on, I needed to be flexible and have an elastic body. We were jogging, running, sprinting freaks. When Imran was there, we would run five laps before we did anything. Being in the gym - it was all about looking good"

Cummins was thrown into Test cricket having played just three Shield matches, is it any wonder he's falling apart? This second injury blow should surely be the wake up call for Cricket Australia to stop picking him and let him get a season or two of first class cricket under his belt, you can't develop match fitness in the gym.

That said for the love of God do not let Cooley and his ilk anywhere near the lad, they built a reputation off making slight tweaks but every time they've done major work they've trashed the bowler concerned - The set Jimmy and Punkett back years, almost terminally in Liam's case, and Johnson looks like absolute rubbish since they messed around with him too.

If I have to continue on what Younis said just look at Jimmy Anderson. He went back to his original action in say 06 or maybe 07 but this time around he was more experienced and as a result was able to make slight changes which helped him to get better. It tells you what Younis said that the bowler himself understands what works for him.

It may not be related to the topic but I have also read that Gibson encouraged him to go back to his original action. People talk so much about Saker but very little about Gibson :D

Struggling to see your point there, I'm afraid M_S. What exactly has the 1 test that he played last year got anything to do with his recent injuries?

Shanky, he was ruled out of the entire summer last year after being injured during the South African series, so no first class cricket to help his physical development or his the development of his action which is what has just ruled him out for the all of this season.
