Mitchell Starc has taken the thread title seriously. Apparently he collided with some equipment at training, gashed his leg and was taken to hospital. 30 stitches later, he won't be going on Aus' one day tour of Sefferland.

Neither will Shaun Marsh, who hasn't recovered from the broken finger he picked up in SL. James Faulkner has sustained a calf injury and is also ruled out of the short tour.

Cricket season must be just about ready to start....

I see Tim Paine has just made a 100 whilst opening for Tasmania in the Matador cup.

If his injury problems are behind him, could he be back in contention for Australia? I seem to remember his keeping being of a pretty good standard, and his batting was not to bad.

He was a seriously good keeper-batsman, remeber he was next in line a while ago, shame injuries wrecked his career, and he was/is a very good talent

Still only 31, and not been convinced by Wade.

I think a fully fit Paine would be good for Australia.

I'm not sure Nevill will be starting the home test series.

I think he will to be honest, as im not sure who will get the nod otherwise? Wade dosen't seem to be able to cut international cricket, let alone test cricket, and im not sure Paine is a part of the selector's plans..

Paine has been forgotten about. Maybe this 100 might get him another look in?

Nevill has not made a 50 for 11 innings, and only made 2 in 19 innings.

His SL tour was not good, though he was not the only one.

Wades test record is much better than Nevill's for a comparable number of tests. Just comparing batting stats and not the relative merits of their keeping. Nevill wins that easily.

I like Nevill because he's actually a decent gloveman, something that is badly missed in international cricket these days. However it's sadly the case that that no longer matters in International cricket. I'd expect him to be replaced in the near future. I'd suggest that Handscomb has a better chance of getting in the Test side over Paine, though Paine might get a go in ODI side.

Is Handscomb still keeping? In the A games, Cameron Bancroft was keeper (didn't think he was a keeper).

Bancroft's a part time keeper...i remeber not long ago he played in the OZ t20 side, as a keeper, and the selectors took a lot of stick for it

Wade mostly kept for Victoria last season. And then someone called Sam Harper. And then someone called Aaron Ayre. Handscomb wasn't keeping last season. Which might suggest he hasn't had a nod from the selectors.

Not sure they will rush to dump Nevill just on the Sri Lanka tour...depends a bit on how secure they feel with the rest of the batting , perhaps. With which , at home ,they probably are fairly comfortable. Suppose if he were to be replaced Paine might well be a candidate along with Wade.
I'd expect Nevill to start though.
