Well after the first few overs it looks like an excellent pitch!
We're well short.

Probably at least 100 below par again. I think the even worse thing going forward is our attack probably means we either need to set , or be able to chase , above par scores!
It's as DFM said a few days ago - we're at the stage of being desperate for Coggers to return. Reminds me of the title of a Humphrey Bogart film - The Desperate Hours!

going predictably well, I see

still can't bat out 50 overs

still can't take wickets

not a lot going for us really.

Two defeats ( three including the warm-up game ), and 2 wickets taken. Medium pace won't cut it on these pitches but unless the top order start well I don't think most attacks could retrieve the situation.

Borthwick says Dickson and Coughlin should be back for the next game - but suggested Coggers isn't likely to bowl much!

Lees and Jones away on international duty. Amazing that Killeen was unaware of the Scotland series - and you'd have thought Jones would have told him!

Tells you everything about the relationship between player and coach. I put Killeen in the same bracket as Franklin regarding motivational and communicative skills.¡

I'm a bit more loyal to Killer than that, but only because he was a good servant to the club in his playing days. I know nothing whatsoever about his coaching/managerial qualities

Carse injured but do we have 6 internationals now? Stokes. Wood, Lees, Potts, Carse and Jones. And Potts is the only one we couldn't have anticipated losing.
Going from Borthwick's interview Dickson and Coughlin will replace Lees and Jones.

Dickson and Coughlin back today and Bushnell making a list a debut. Somerset are bowling first so it could be a short game! It's such a poor looking lineup- and Jones isn't in Scotland's team today!

Only 1 wicket so far but pedestrian scoring. The reason I will be surprised if we win a game in this competition is the batting will do well to make par scores...but even when/if they do I can't see the bowlers defending it. And if we bowl first we'll invariably be trying to chase above par scores.
Hopefully they will prove me wrong today, I'd imagine a score well above 300 is required although I don't know how strong Somerset are with the bat. A fair few unfamiliar names.

good to see Dicko back in the side

I wonder why he isn't opening? At this rate he'll come in needing to rapidly accelerate the scoring rate, but with only 5 overs to do it in

although once the next wicket goes down, we'll probably collapse like a house of cards

Yes, can only think they wanted firepower down the order. Trouble is - and this is obviously entering the reslms of fantasy - if they posted 400 we'd be about 5 overs into the reply before deciding we're 50 short!
Against Middlesex I briefly wondered if our score was remotely defendable - about 3 overs in I knew it was not.
