Probably too harsh to go after Ian Bell, as he did have a pretty decent test career. But it did always feel like he was the master of the empty calories innings. The 2013 home Ashes series is an exception, as he stood mostly alone in a series where England's batting cracks started to open up into canyons, and he played a couple of really important innings that swayed the series England's way.

Most people mention the 2011 India series at home as his zenith moment, but India were in absolute pieces as a bowling unit at that time. Stuart Broad averaged 67 and Bresnan nearly 80 in that series, and KP averaged over 100.

The Indian bowling attack was pants that year too. Was a real low point for Indian bowling

Can't compare the two at all! Ian Bell was a much better player, Crawley will get a huge score and nothing else...Bell would at least get 50's if the big scores weren't coming
