He's 33, so quite young for a modern player.

A blow for Hants.

Was just discussing with someone yesterday how his England days seem to be gone. What about in the shorter forms for England, has he been getting games lately?

I think he's got a fair T20 circuit cut out for himself, hasn't he?

He was here at the start of the BBL, and did ok I think, did he go off to another league or is he injured?

Can you get something more extreme right social media influencer playbook than taking huge amounts of money from an autocratic petrostate, and then coming out and saying you are moving to that country because the West is no longer safe? Maybe Vince is eyeing up replacing Andrew Tate if his human trafficking charges in Romania ever stick.

Maybe Vince might want to do some research on his new crime free utopia - his boss raping Caitlan McNamara and not seeing any justice for example. I guess crime is low when you don't actually acknowledge it.

Vince also blamed the ECB not issuing NOCs for the PSL and other competitions that overlap with the county season, as a reason why players will leave and become T20 franchise mercenaries - indeed James, by not letting these players miss the County season with their blessing, it definitely makes a difference. It would be great of the CC if the ECB would just let players miss it, rather than having to officially opt out of it.

I get the feeling James isn't a bright guy.

Feel free to go earn 450k for a few weeks work and take you family to live anywhere..... but lets be honest mate, its about the money. Lets not pretend its about anything else.

James Vince had his home broken into multiple times last summer...so from that point of view he is protecting his family....yes I don't agree with him giving up red ball and money is of course at play too...however you've gone in a bit strong on someone who is making steps to protect his family and financially provide for them at the same time......but hey don't let your own views cloud the situation right...?!

Go the Hurricanes!

They have never won a BBL title, and tonight is a great time to change that. Their third final, but the first one at home.

One added bonus of watching a Hurricane triumph will be seeing David Warner lead a losing team - though, I have to give it to him, he has captained his team very well this season.

Go the Canes.

The UAE has 0% income tax. By moving his official tax residency to Dubai, he essentially no longer needs to pay tax on his huge ILT20 wage when in the past he would pay 40% in the UK, and he would have no obligation to top up this tax in foreign countries where he plays and the tax is taken at source from local obligations. As a non-resident sportsman coming back to the UK, he would be applicable for the special tax rate of 20% instead of 40% on any county/franchise earnings - but here is an important caveat - it is only applicable if he is not in the UK past the cut off point to be classed as permanently resident.

Vince's season last year would not qualify as a non-resident. As a result he would pay 40% tax on his Gulf Giants wage, an extra 20% on his UK earnings, and be subject to top up taxes on his other contracts in the UK. By avoiding red ball cricket, he reduces his length of time in the UK to being a non-resident, and saves himself 100,000s of pounds in tax.

But yeah, I am sure moving to a tax haven for his own benefit has nothing to do with this - and I am sure if it did, he would be saying so in the press. :facepalm

I think you have to be naive to believe that the UAE royal family are paying players handsome rewards just to play. Its not how sportswashing works - having the poster child of an international tournament come out and say the country is really safe - its all part of that. You think they are paying him the best part of 500k for a few weeks work and not have him be part of the image crusade?

I let you do your research on Human Rights Watch to have a real take on how "safe" the country is.
