It's been so long since I last watched a 50 over game that I forgot they use a different ball at each end. For a moment I wondered what the umpires were up to, putting the ball in their pocket at the end of each over. Does the fielding capt still have to pick one of the balls after 35 overs?

Not going according to plan! 94/0 and only real chance of q wicket was a run out opportunity.

Easy win. That total was always going to take a lot of chasing.

It was a very fine batting performance from us

Lees took an age to get into double figures, with Clark the dominant partner, but by the end he was hitting everything to and over the rope (until he holed out)

BS set himself to score at a run a ball and did it easily. Looked really fluent. Has scored 180 runs in his last 2 knocks and yet to be dismissed

Gay looked really classy, despite not having played a shot in anger since the 3rd test. He will have been disappointed to nick off with the keeper standing up, but nobody else minded, because that brought Stokes to the crease. Got a big cheer when he walked out to the middle

Ground seemed really busy today.... not Friday night T20 busy, but not a million miles away from a midweek T20. The solitary butty van had a long, long queue, so I reckon this was a bigger than usual crowd for the One Day Cup, and I also reckon this is probably the Stokes factor.

Notes for next year..... more butty vans at the Riverside and fewer games given away to outgrounds. It'll be interesting to find out what the crowds will be like for the games at Gosforth and Darlo
