odd sort of innings from Gay. He started off very scratchily with McKinney looking by far the more assured of the two. Then he began to look more comfortable, started timing his shots and finding gaps and dominated the partnership. After suddenly racing to 37 he then became a bit becalmed, added only 4 runs in about 5 overs, before chasing a ball that was angled across him and nicking off. He had no need to go after that ball, I got the impression he simply lost patience.

McKinney looked good, didn't get into any trouble particularly, no close calls or anything like that. He just got on with his job and waited for the bad balls to come along

Not a bad morning's work, but Gay will be kicking himself for throwing it away after playing himself in

Yes, that partnership was brilliant and averted disaster but they never looked like getting out so it's clearly a good pitch to bat on. Famous last words probably but I think our bowlers might have more of an impact.

A lot of edges flying through slips for four this morning. 4 times in 14 overs. Two for us and two for them. It’s almost as if nobody wants to catch it

We aren’t bowling very well. Warks are dealing almost exclusively in boundaries. Two were off the edge, but the rest have just been hammered away. Too short, too wide, too straight
